The Medium Next Door - A Review
"I see dead people..."
This famous line from the very popular movie, The Sixth Sense, has been quoted over and over, but for Maureen Hancock communing with the dead isn't a joke, it's a way of life.
In The Medium Next Door, Maureen shares her life story which includes some of her own tragedies as well as her ability to hear and respond to the dead. This unique talent of Maureen's has helped many grieving people obtain peace, she has solved mysteries, assisted the dying and has landed her her very own television show.
What makes Maureen different from all the other "ghostbusters"? "I enjoy making people smile," Maureen says. "I think what differentiates me from other spirit mediums is that I believe our loved ones in spirit enjoy coming through with a celebration and not reliving another wake." In addition Maureen likes to "jump in with humour and help the person left behind know that it's okay to continue living, laughing and celebrating these great memories."
Even if you're skeptical about "ghosts" and an afterlife, Maureen's candor and readings are chillingly accurate - I found myself wishing she had a message from beyond for me! She also looks like an ordinary mom (no layers of flowing scarves and dangling jewelry). Her humor throughout the book is a wonderful change for a subject that could otherwise be morose.
I will admit I had my doubts about Maureen's authenticity when I first picked up her book, however, the more I read the more I believed she truly does have a wonderful gift and the fact that she uses it for good (lots of time for free) is just more convincing.

"Maureen's ability to interpret and understand messages from the deceased is remarkable. She describes events, locations, and situations so eerily; it's as if she were present when these events occurred. I'm amazed and awestruck at her comprehension and specific knowledge of the lives of people that she's never even met. Her interpretations are inspiring and comforting to the grandest skeptic. A must read for anyone that has lost a loved one and has questions about death, dying, and the continuity of life."
―Cindy Hall Felts, Alamance County Homicide Detective(Cindy Hall Felts)
"Maureen Hancock is the Real Deal! Maureen's innate ability to connect and receive messages from our loved ones who have passed is truly a Divine Gift. As a law enforcement officer for 30 years; logic is supported by factual evidence. In 2006, my life changed after her personal reading that was fact driven, connected me to a dear loved one who had passed decades ago; long before the age of computers, internet, and Google. The Medium Next Door will open your heart and soul to a new belief that our loved ones really don't die, they are 'just different now,' as Maureen explains with her connections to Spirit. Her book is full of personal life experiences that are uplifting and comforting, taking away doubt and leaving the reader with strength, hope, and peace."
―John M. LaCross, RI Police Chief and Retired Major of RI State Police(John M. LaCross,)
"When our four-year-old little angel, 'Lulu,' came through Maureen, it was beyond this world! It was beyond any experience I have ever had. Maureen delivers messages with power, humor, and grace. Maureen says that she is clairaudient, but I have witnessed her taking on the complete mannerisms of lost loved ones. Maureen is a gift to the living and the dead! She is the real deal! For anyone who will pass away . . . for anyone who has lost a loved one . . . this book and Maureen are a must-have! If you have ever doubted heaven, doubt no more! Thank you, Maureen, for sharing your gift with the world!"

"Having spent five years producing Ghost Whisperer, we didn't realize how much we could still learn and how entertained we could still be exploring 'the other side,' until we read Maureen Hancock's The Medium Next Door. She's the real deal, remarkably accessible, and surprisingly funny. She's your best friend, 'the medium.' This book is a joy."
―Ian Sander & Kim Moses, Executive Producers, Ghost Whisperer(Ian Sander & Kim Moses)
"In The Medium Next Door, Maureen Hancock weaves the fabric of everyday life into accounts of communication across different realms―providing the reader with a comfortable and believable platform. Not only is Maureen the 'real deal' when it comes to spirit communication she is also a grounded individual with great integrity, a caring nature, and a wonderful sense of humor. I was fortunate enough to personally experience a reading with Maureen―conducted under restricted conditions. She shone brightly in this process, as did my smile after receiving unmistakable validations from my beloved son Brandon."
―Mark Ireland, author of Soul Shift: Finding Where the Dead Go(Mark Ireland)
"Maureen Hancock is a gifted individual, but she's also a gift to the rest of us. Her wonderful book takes us inside the world of a true clairvoyant and sheds a cathartic light on some of life's great mysteries. I found her story to be inspirational, humorous, and beautifully written. Two words: highly recommended."

Knowing that your loved ones are happy and still with us is what this book has taught me.
This book only has one drawback. You can't physically put it down. From the first page to the last it keeps you totally engrossed and you will stay up all night reading.
So, take a personal day - put on a pot of coffee and take the phone off the hook (unless you have children) and be ready to be taken to another dimension. One that you almost can't wait to go to. You will no longer be afraid of dying. You will feel at peace knowing that your loved one's are with you daily rooting for you.
Maureen Hancock has written a book that many well known authors with best-sellers can't even come close to.
It was years later that same friend told me about this book... and about one year after I lost my Mom to lung cancer only 9 weeks after she was diagnosed. I was very sad when I lost my Grandmother, but nothing, NOTHING could have prepared me to lose my Mom. My Mother's faith in the midst of this crisis was book worthy... and yet, I was lost without her. My friend dragged me to the book-signing where I bought this book. I started to read it and I could not put it down. I laughed, I cried, I healed. When you read this book please know she is the real deal!!! If you have any doubt at all, go and see her or speak to anyone who has. I've only seen her three times in my life, but I pray for her now as I know she has been chosen as one of God's very special angels.
I've bought several copies of this book and hand it out to everyone I know who loses someone they love. My transition from terrible, gut-wrenching grief to peace with sentimental sadness and laughter, came with your help Maureen. I am forever grateful.
I purchased the book and could not put it down . Every page has an incredible story. The book chronicles her life and has several detailed stories about how Maureen connected families with deceased children. Maureen shares several hints on how to meditate and leave behind daily stress so we can open our minds to our intuative sense. This book is not an instruction book on how to be a medium.
Great inspirational book.
Don't get me wrong. There's good intent in this book, but it really says nothing about the life of a psychic, or even how the whole thing works. It's just a jumbled collection of stories that are supposed to make you feel better about death. When I read books like this, they tend to make me doubt the author because it seems as if they're coming across as self-help books without any merit as to who they are or why they get these visions.
I'm a skeptic either way, but I'd like to read one book by a medium that I can buy into.
