The only reason I purchased this book is because of the memories it brings back of that whole period before The Beatles really became huge everywhere. If you were lucky enough to be around when The Beatles first appeared, this nice little book will bring some of that time back. A few of the (all b&w ) photos are interesting, and some of the text is nicely time-locked in that innocent way from the era--"Back Home with The Beatles in their Booming Beatropolis", as one chapter heading states.
Included are Beatle biographies, "Beatle Background" ( with "General Beatletistics"), "Beatles Beside the Seashore", "Chart-Toppers At the Moment of Truth", "A London Day In The Life of the Beatles", and so on. And as a time machine in words and pictures, this slim reprint is pretty cool if you remember back then, before the band became huge. I was lucky enough to see and hear (sort of, what with all the screaming) The Beatles in my home town at the now long gone stadium. The tickets were something like $3-$4 dollars, and my Mom gave me the money. You couldn't hear much of the music except every now and then, but what an experience--all those screaming, crying girls. I remember that most of all. Even as a young person I never understood why all the hysterics--but I guess that's just me. This is worthwhile for a look back at how it all started.
The book includes a personal introduction by The Beatles, while the rest of the 40-page photo-filled book was written by Beatles' publicist Tony Barrow, the man who coined the phrase "The Fab Four."
Sections include "Personal Portraits", "Beatle Background", "Beatling Beside the Seaside", "Back Home with the Beatles", "Chart-toppers at their Moment of Truth", "Stars of Stage, Home-screen & radio", and "A London Day in the Life of the Beatles."
The hardcover book is an exact reproduction of the original which was published as a magazine in 1963 by Souvenir Press. The book features black and white photos of The Beatles, many taken by Dezo Hoffmann.
Loved reading the "Beatletistics" of each individual member (ex. George "favors smallish blondes", John "dislikes traditional jazz and thick heads", Paul has "a strong liking for Kraft cheese slices", and Ringo "dislikes onions, motor bikes and Chinese food").
A must-have for serious Beatles fans. Casual fans will enjoy.
