Review

"4 Stars! A sexy series starter set on an island where anyone would love to spend the summer, Sykes' latest is a winner."―RT Book Reviews

"As Aiden and Lily take a chance on their romance, neither knows whether it will be fleeting or turn into forever. Their intense romance is sensuous and moving, with a perfect smalltown setting."―Publishers Weekly

About the Author

V. K. Sykes is a wife/husband writing team-Vanessa Kelly and Randall Sykes-who write romantic suspense and single title contemporary romance. One of the great things they appreciate about being writers is that they can work anywhere so Vanessa and Randy split their time between Ontario, Canada, in the summer and Florida in the winter. Both locations have shores just as beautiful as the imaginary Seashell Bay.

4 Stars!

When I sat down to read this book, I really expected a light, fluffy romance. I expected to read a book about people frolicking on the beach simply because of the cover. I ended up being completely wrong about what this book was going to be because it ended up being so much more than I expected. In fact, this book was absolutely excellent. I love reading about second chance romances and this was an excellent example.

Aiden is the kind of man I love to read about. He is a handsome professional baseball player who has hit a bump in his career. He does the right thing even when it isn't the easy thing to do. He is not easily influenced by others and takes care of the people that he cares about. Lily was equally likeable. She is a leader in the community and fights hard for what she believes in. She is a hard worker and she is tougher than most men.

Aiden left Seashell Bay to pursue his baseball career and he hasn't looked back. In fact, he has only returned to the island once since leaving. The book starts with his return for the second time. This time he is in town to deal with a pending sale of his family's land. The deal can only go through if Aiden agrees and the impact of his decision would affect everyone on the island. Lily has remained in Seashell Bay running her own fishing boat. She has strong opinions about the future of the island and her way of life.

Lily and Aiden were never officially a couple before Aiden left the island but they both had strong feelings for each other. Both have dated other people during their years apart but remain single. They quickly realize that the spark they felt in high school is still there years later. The chemistry between the pair was amazing.

An awesome book that left me with that feel good smile when I finished. Excellent writing and a pace that has the story moving along nicely. Amazing characters fill the small town and should lead to more interesting stories around this small island town.

When Aiden Flynn's baseball career comes crashing down around him, the last place he thought he would end up was his hometown of Seashell Bay. After leaving home and an abusive father 14 years ago going back had never entered his mind until his brother told him he needed him. The small town is divided regarding a new development. Half the town wants it to stay the sleepy little town it's always been. The other obviously wants to see it grow. The land that was left to Aiden when his mother died is the key to the deal. Will he sell and side with his father and brother or hold on to it to satisfy the townspeople who want things the same. The fact that the one girl who has ever touched his heart, Lily Doyle, doesn't want the development won't come in to play. Nope. Not gonna happen....

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series and I highly recommend this one to everyone.

The Seashell Bay series begins with an emotional story proving exactly how choices can either lead to lasting happiness or possibly cause lifelong misery. Two people must choose whether to listen to their hearts or go along with the thinking of others. From the time this couple reconnects to final decision making is shown with intense feelings and lots of inner turmoil. Genuine emotions plus intriguing characters make MEET ME AT THE BEACH constantly enjoyable, and V. K. Sykes always keeps the reader engaged during every entertaining scene. This author is a talented husband and wife writing team, and they perfectly balance duty with dreams for a very imaginative story.

Though a career as a baseball player in the majors has kept Aiden Flynn busy over the years, some changes have recently occurred that could greatly alter his professional future. There is also the added burden of what to decide about a deal his dad and brother have in the works concerning land all three own where he grew up. Generally going back home causes a person much joy, but events in his younger days only make Aiden wish he could stay away from Seashell Bay Island, Maine forever. His relatives want to sell their part of the island to a company which would result in huge changes to the coast, and many residents are determined to keep this from happening.

One of his family's biggest opponents is Lily Doyle, a woman Aiden knew very well from his high school days. Upon seeing him back in the town that he never visits, she knows increasing her campaign is crucial in case he actually agrees to sell. The time he spent on the island hardened him to the area, and the wishes of the townsfolk make little difference to him.

Set on a quaint island off the coast of Maine where lobster fishing is the primary industry and residents are hardy New England folk, this is a rich, meaty, well-written story of choices, second chances, community, dysfunctional family, life cross-roads, lucrative development vs preservation of tradition, forgiveness, compromise and the complexity, heartache, and ultimate joy of love offered and accepted.

Aiden Flynn couldn't leave Seashell Bay fast enough and really, who could blame him? After a life of abuse at the hands of his drunken father, the last thing Aiden wanted was to spend the rest of his life toiling on his family's lobster boat. Aiden loathed lobster fishing. The day after high school graduation, he boarded the ferry and set off to pursue a career in baseball. Over the past 14 years he's only been back on the island once, for his mother's funeral, until now. Released by his team because of his bad knees, the baseball superstar is at a crossroads, refusing to believe his beloved career could be over. The last place he wants to be is on the island but his father and brother want to sell the prime pieces of real estate that were left to the three of them by Aiden's mother to a mainland developer and need Aiden's agreement since he owns the center lot and only with his approval can the sale move forward. He plans to wrap things up quickly and get back to his life. Life has other plans, namely one Lily Doyle, hottest girl on the island, the star of his teenage dreams and one secret, unforgettable night of passion.

Seashell Bay is Lily Doyle's home and lobster fishing is her passion. She's never wanted to live off-island or do anything else but run her own lobster boat.
