The land is dry, and Mama must leave Little One to ask the skies for rain. It's important, but Little One is worried and doesn't want Mam to go. "You will feel my love in everything around you," Mama reassures. In the wind, Mama will sing. Her love will be in the warmth of the sun; it will twinkle in the brightest star. And she promises they will be reunited in the moon, "where the sky touches the earth," after the rains come.

"Meet Me at the Moon" is lovely both in word and art. Author/illustrator Gianna Marino perfectly captures the love between a mother and child, and gently broaches the subject of temporary separation. Exquisite illustrations in oranges, yellows and blues are a delight that you'll want to peruse over and over again. This is one of my favorite picture books of the year. Make sure to add it to the top of your "to-own" list.

Absolutely charming book in every way. I have bought all of Gianna Marino's books for my grand daughter and they are always sure to please for a very long time. Her illustrations are so beautifully detailed and her perspective on the animals is always so original. This is a bittersweet story about a mom and her daughter elephant. the anxiety of seperation, the trust of a reunion and the joy of finding one another again - at the moon. Gorgeous.

The illustrations are beautiful, really stunning. The story is sweet, but a little sappy and falls short of conveying the deeper meaning that it seems to be striving for. Mama elephant loves baby elephant, but their land is dry, so Mama elephant must leave to ask the sky for more rain. Other members of the African plains look out for Baby elephant and Mama elephant tells Baby that he will know her love by the moon. After the rain falls, Mama elephant and Baby are reunited. The story is a sweet but awkward message about the depths of a mother's love. Despite the shortcomings of the prose, the beautiful illustrations make this picture book totally worthwhile.

Granted, I'm pretty emotional to begin with. But this book makes me choke up a little bit every time I read it with my 2.5-yr-old. He likes to pull it off the bookcase himself sometimes. "The moon" is one of his favorite phrases, which makes it extra special.

The illustrations and of course the story itself are such an endearing experience. Captures the heart of those reading as well as those listening... absolutely loved it the reactions it brought out in the little ones. Thank you for making it available.

One of my favorites! My daughter passed away at the age at two and she would received monthly books from Dolly Parton Library. I was pregnant when she passed away and as the books rolled in after her passing I saved them for my son. I didn't have strength to open them and read like I did with her each month. However, when this one came in I just had to read it. It describes so perfectly the bond between a mother and child and even death can't tear it away. One day we will meet up again at the moon but until then I will read this book to my sweet girl in Heaven. I have also purchased this book for other grieving mothers going through a similar journey.

The illustrations are also beautiful! This is a must have book for any parent wanting to show their little ones just how strong their love is and that no obstacles, (whether death of a child or parent, deployment, divorce, etc.) can change the love a parent has for their child.

This book jumped out at me on a table of hundreds of books. The art, design, and story are incredible. I made a $25 bet with my husband that this one will win a Caldecott.
