I downloaded this book because it is free but read it because I love the author. Plus I'm a sucker for stories that involve dreams and destiny.
Meeting Destiny is a mix of love story, mystery, suspense, fantasy, and paranormal. The book starts off with amazing action and continues on from there. It also goes a little deeper as it tackles things like destiny, courage, sacrifice, hope, and love. It leaves you thinking and considering deeper meanings outside of just the plot long after you close the book.
The characters are real and engaging. I found myself wanting a happily ever after for all of them.Lauren, the main character, is a senior in college and has always had an uncanny gut instinct about people. I love her slightly sarcastic personality and her deep devotion to family and friends. Her actions show us that she is also courageous, humble, and a survivor. Max, is her Mr. Destiny. You will fall in love with him. He is honest, humble, and respectful. He isn't perfect but he has morals and I just love that he respected the boundaries of an already established relationship.
I will warn you that the ending is a HUGE cliff hanger. It was 10:30 p.m. when I finished reading the book and at the end I was yelling, "No, no, no". I had to exercise extreme self-discipline to not buy and start the second book immediately. If you read Meeting Destiny and love it as much as I did you are going to want the next book Destiny's Revenge.
Lauren and Max are destined to be together. Lauren had always dreamed of him for years and when she finally meet him, she's certain that he's the only one for her. She broke up with her bestfriend and sort-of-boyfriend Seth to pursue Max and make him remember everything he said in her dreams. But meeting Max didn't make her life less complicated since Lauren isn't just an ordinary girl. She has the ability to sense danger around her and other people.
Max is a dreamy kind of guy--gorgeous, strong, dependable and a gentleman. There seems to be more about him to discover in the next installment. I want to know everything about Max and how he and Lauren will fulfill their purpose and their destinies together. Lauren is independent and strong-willed, though I think she should be more open with Max about things and her decisions. But then, that made her who she is.
The story is full of suspense and never-ending mystery. It will keep you guessing up to the last page. And the ending? What a cliffhanger! Does it have to end like that? Oh my Max. This will certainly make you anxious to read the next book.
Overall, the story is good, entertaining and gripping. The mysteries that surrounds Lauren and her abilities, Max and his purpose, and their stories together that are waiting to be told makes this book a very good start for a compelling saga that you might not want to miss.
P.S. A reader =) told me that my review somehow confused her (so sorry for the confusion). I gave this book a rating of 3/5 but when you read my review, it seems like I really liked it. Maybe, I didn't explained it much in my review, but I think I owe it to my readers and followers. I don't want to change my original stand/thoughts once I already posted. I only give my honest opinion because I believe in integrity. So, I've decided to just further explain my thoughts on why I give it a 3/5 instead of a higher one.
I honestly liked Meeting Destiny and I'm still looking forward to read the next books in the series. A rating of 3 out of 5 doesn't mean a "negative" review for me. It was actually ok. In Goodreads, it means "I liked it", and in Amazon it means "It's OK." Here in my blog, I mean it as "A Good Read". The only thing that I've forgotten to mentioned (which probably caused the confusion) is the reason why 3? I've been too busy babbling on the good stuffs that I forgot to mention what I didn't like. Well, honestly, there's nothing hated about the book. It's just that the relationship of Max and Lauren didn't do it for me that much... I'm still waiting for something deeper... something strong that will make my heart tingles, and my body tense when I read about them. Something that is more than what they have in the book. Nevertheless, this book is good. I meant it and I still do. :)
Meeting Destiny was a paranormal read and very enjoyable. I really like Nancy Straight's writing style; it flows smoothly. She is able to create strong and independent main characters. Lauren has a sixth sense...for danger. She just needs to learn how to use and assess her sixth sense.
She learned she could communicate with Rewsna telepathically. I perceived that Rewsna was like an overseer(?). She clued Lauren in to the fact that her Destiny (Max) needed to be awakened to long forgotten memories and Lauren held the key. Max would be every woman's fantasy lover. He came on strong early in the story, but his character seemed to weaken as the story progressed.
There was a lot of incredible action in this story. First a burglary at the diner she worked in, then a dilemma at the mall where she feared for her friend's life, helping the guy she had been suspicious of but learned she had sensed danger for him rather than from him and his destiny, and finally her trip into the mountains with Max that ended with Lauren waking two and a half years of being in a coma.
The ending of Book one seemed kind of rushed with so many questions unanswered. Straight can hold your attention as you long to learn and read the rest of the story.
Sort of your typical YA novel, but more tolerable than others I have read.
