I'm a huge fan of sci-fi romance and this one is definitely worth adding to your collection.
That anthology was only $1.99 and came with 10 other stories. I rated it a 5 then, but am very dissatisfied now considering I just bought a book I already owned and paid more for it. Skip this buy and get the anthology instead, it will introduce u to many more great stories!
The series is currently comprised of two books featuring Melissa and her husbands and the second two are about Melissa's daughter, Diana, and her family. Paloma Delacroix is the best friend of Diana and is mentioned in book 3. This book is best read after the third book in the series and is considered 3.5. The events are happening parallel for the most part to the events in the third book so there is no real confusion if you stick to the order.. Book four will be published soon (I read it as an ARC and it is great!) and the author does indicate plans for even more books in the series.
Paloma does not have the same kind of family Melissa and Diana were raised in with a mother, father and uncles and all the children living together. She was part of a nuclear family and her father was very focused on politics. He wanted his daughters to make advantageous marriages. When she makes a mistake as a teenager, he sent her away for punishment.
It is a miserable life until she meets Thomas, Clay, Keith and Quinn McQueen. These brothers are intelligent and mysterious. They want to protect her and keep her safe but she is not sure what or who to trust. It is a dangerous world. When she has no where else to go, she has to trust in someone.
I highly recommend this sci-fi romance series. It has really interesting storylines featuring strong women and the unique relationships they have built with the men in their lives. Unlike other stories that feature multiple partners, the author really takes time to develop the characters and each relationship is different between the partners. In this book, the partners are all brothers which adds an interesting dynamic. There is a lot of action in the series too which keep it very interesting and make you want to finish the entire book in one sitting.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.
While a lot happens during the story, I am not sure that I could recommend this as a standalone read. There are just some details that might be confusing to the reader who does not understand the universe it is set in. I do wish the author had taken more time to explain it a little more so that it could be considered a standalone. For instance, this is a reverse harem story where there is one woman with several men. Not as common in the romance genre, so an explanation as to why would've helped quite a bit more than just saying there was a shortage of women in the world and leaving it at that. But that's just my nitpicking. Having read the last full length story in the series I understood the universe the characters were living in so it was not a problem for me.
I was also surprised that just as the story was getting good it ended. Not an actual cliffhanger per se, but the relationship certainly hadn't been consummated when the story was over. However, the author does leave a note at the end of the book letting us know that we will see more of their romance in the next book in the series. I certainly hope so because I really would like to read more of Paloma and her men doing more than just light necking.
So if you have read at least one of the other books in the series and intend to read the next one, I would highly recommend reading this one. I just hope Rebecca stands by what she said and continues the story in the next book, at least until the consummation of the marriage. I want to finally read about Paloma getting it on with her men!
