Isabelle's Ballet Stage- It's time to draw back the curtain on Isabelle's Ballet Recital by Mega Bloks American Girl and put on the perfect performance! Help her get started by building the dress rehearsal area where Isabelle can design and create costumes at her buildable sewing station! Next it's time to build the ballet bar, where she and her friend Luisa can practice their plies! Now that they're ready to perform, build center stage and have the girls perform a dazzling dance duet! The stage also features a spinning floor so that you can display all of the girls' polished positions and poses! Bravo! Encore! Ideal for ages 8 years and older.

What was better about this set is that it is played with AFTER it is built, which is not always predictable. Most of our Lego block buildings and Mega Bloks Halo sets get put together and stay together. They end up on a shelf or desk somewhere and don’t get a lot of play time other than the building of them.
I was thinking that this might be too girly, but then I realized that having already stepped into the road of American Girls Dolls, it’s too late for me anyway. (Save yourself while you still can!) We have several, including Isabelle, and one Grace that is still in a box because I don’t remember where I hid it. On the other hand, while I was looking, I found my roller skates. Things even out.
Bagged Mega Blok pieces
Full-color, easy to follow instruction book with play starting ideas
Two AG figures: Isabelle and Luisa
The AG figures are bigger than Lego Friends. The AG figures measure about 2 1/2 inches high and one inch across. Their feet will snap into the Blok pieces, and hands can hold rounded items (like the ballet barre). They are close in size to Playmobil figures.
The Mega Bloks are 99% compatible with Lego pieces. Every once in a while there is one that does not fit, but the vast majority of them work just fine.
My one dislike for this set is that the bagged parts were not numbered. Some bags had only white pieces, some bags had a mix of colored pieces. If there was an organization to the bagging, it was not communicated in the instructions. The bags should have been labeled: Stage bag 1, Stage bag 2, Dressing Stand bag 1. That would have avoided a lot of frustration, especially for experienced Lego builders like my daughters.
I have attached a picture of the parts list, so you can get an idea of the different pieces and parts included. A sorting tray helps a lot in building this set, I would recommend the Lego sorting tray as an "also purchase" for this item.
She was too little to build the playset by herself but she helped by handing me the pieces I asked for, holding one thing and helping me put another into place etc. so she really felt like she had put some work into putting the playset together and couldn't wait to finish it. She kept asking "Are we almost done?" about every five minutes.
The set was easy to put together and it makes an adorable playset. It is so detailed and the little dolls are so cute. She has spent hours playing with this and I don't see her growing tired of it anytime soon. I definitely recommend for any little American Girl fans.
The one thing I wish Mega Bloks would improve is their organization of the pieces. If you have built other sets of theirs, you know what I'm talking about. I always think maybe one will be different, but basically we end up making our own separate piles of similar parts and building from that. It isn't scientific, but it works for our kids who love to participate by helping to put together segments of the project, because they enjoy digging for pertinent pieces. Personally I would prefer that the pieces were organized in some recognizable way...but, since we have already purchased several Mega Bloks sets, I know and accept this as part of the equation and it doesn't bother us. The important thing is that the instruction manual is CLEAR and easy to follow, which it is!
Mattel has included what looks like an American Girl storybook, but it is actually the building instructions for the set. There is a "story" that essentially sets the stage for this set essentially on one page. Their instructions are really well done and include little excerpts about the characters using different aspects of the set as you build.
This is a beautiful, well constructed set with so many fun details. Our girls love working through the various stations from making a costume to the dressing room with makeup mirror, practice bar and of course the stage...it is so entertaining!
