I bought this to save my hard earned Pokémon save data, and it worked! Now whenever the internal batteries die and I replace them, I will still have my data.
It has nice instructions that are easy to follow. The shell of the device is pretty sturdy. However, the slot you plug the game cartridge into seems a little fragile so just be gentle with it. I have saved about 10 different games to it already and the only problems I came across were due to the cartridges and not this device. I have tested the delete game save function for deleting the save data ON THE GAME CARTRIDGE and not the mega memory card, and it successfully deleted all save data on my Donkey Kong Land III cartridge. After I deleted the save data I tested the restore feature on the game and it worked perfectly.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to make sure that their save data for all of their Gameboy and Gameboy Color games lasts for decades. I would NOT recommend using this on games with a rumble feature, like Pokémon Pinball, because I believe that doing that will eventually break this device by putting too much stress on the cartridge slot. Trust me I feel like I'm going to break it just putting normal games into it sometimes.

The device works as expected and I was able to backup/restore game saves for my Pokemon blue cartridge, however I have experienced several major issues with the device.
1. It often glitches out like there is not a good connection to the cartridge/gameboy. Removing and reinserting a few times solved the issue
2. The plastic at the end of the cartridge came warped so it needs to be pressed together in order to insert into GB slot
3. This device will not work with original gameboy systems because there is not a notch where the power switch slides over to lock in the corner of a GB cartridge. I am able to use it fine with my SP, cannot speak to the other system.
4. !!!! After restoring an earlier save of my game in order to catch some pokemon earlier in the game all my saves were not shown in the mega memory card restore menu. I had lost over 20hrs of play. By dumb luck I saved the game again using the same name as I had before in the second slot where my good save was and when I restored from that save my original good save was restored. Do not ask me why this worked but it did. Safe to say I will not be putting much faith in this device to swap back and forth from saves frequently, if I do it will only be after <hour of play.

I received a brand new unit, still in the sealed plastic that protects the box, and it works flawlessly. I am very satisfied with this purchase, and I already saved my game data from my crystal version with 251 complete Pokedex, and a Gold run through with all the Tm's and multiples of them. The card can hold plenty more save data's and I am waiting for my USB cartridge so I can save the data to my computer as a secure back up.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone worrying about losing data to old batteries.

I loved to play Pokemon when I was little. In fact I still do. The other day my save battery died for Silver version. I had a decent file so I was a little upset, but not really. I hadn't played it in years. Though then I started to play Red, Blue, and Yellow all over again. I never got really far when I was a kid and now I want to. I realized however that I was going to have to change the battery at one point and loose my saved games. The GBC Mega Memory Card is a little crude, but it did what I needed. It backed up my saved games. I won't connect to your computer or anything and the connection on mine was kinda to keep in place, but my saves are now backed up. That makes replacing the battery with out loosing my saves possible. I have seen some that can back your saves to the computer, but I was not really interested in that since I use Linux and doubt any of the software that comes with them would work right. From looking inside I saw no battery so it will not loose your saves once stored. I tested it with Red and Yellow version and it worked perfectly. I'm sure I will need it down the road when I finally get around to replacing Silver's battery. Over all I am happy with it.

I don't use this for Pokemon or RPGs. I like to use my Gameboy Camera still! I still enjoy the grainy photos it takes, I have the Gameboy to Computer cable and software and post my photos online. They have a cool aesthetic to them that reminds me of my childhood. Anyway, the GB Camera however only holds 30 pictures. With the Mega Memory card, I can backup all 30, delete the save on my Camera, and then take another 30. The Mega Memory card let's me hold about 120 or so photos.
The box states it's compatible with the original gameboy, however I can't get it to work with the original. The power button won't slide when the Mega Memory card is in it. The original gameboy had a little piece of plastic that holds the cart in on the little notch in the corner (THAT'S what that's for!) but the mega memory card blocks where the piece slides. Oh well, still works great with my Gameboy Pocket, Color, Advance, and Advance SP!
One thing to note - I lost 60 pictures because I went to "RESET". I thought that meant it would do a soft reset to the gameboy but it resets the MMC to factory! GONE! ALL 60! Oh well, live and learn. Whoever said that the menu is confusing must be pretty slow, I didn't have to use the manual. It's all pretty self explanatory!
Probably going to pick up a few more!

As many Pokemon game files as I want.
Only ones did my game get corrupted due to to many copying and re-loading.
But it's still worth the purchase!

I baught this because in the dicription sais it works for game boy color, but in the instructions clearly states (after i mistakenly baught this game for game boy color) game boy only it even mentions games like tetris and pokemon red and blue, I even tried saving my game boy color games and accidentally ended up deleting my game saves this thing is garbage only worth buying if you only have game boy games and thats laughable most game boy games don't even use game saves.

Easy to use and advice for old Gameboy(GB) users
Reviewed in Canada on January 5, 2013Verified Purchase
Using this is extremely simple and straight forward.
Instruction booklet makes everything crystal clear.
Only downside is for the old gray Gameboys. The ON/OFF button intercepts with the yellow cartridge. I had to unscrew my GB and remove the dark gray switch cover in order to get it working. Cutting the Mega Memory Card doesn't work because the circuit board is needed for that ON/OFF area. Now I just flip the ON/OFF switch with a pen and it works fine, but I wish I had known this earlier so it wouldn't be a surprise. Gameboy Colour does not have this problem because the ON/OFF moved to the side.

If the save battery in the games poops out your done. This is the solution, the save battery still has to be replaced but at least you still have your data.
