Not everyone has the time, ability or even the desire sometimes to do a multi-step system on their car. Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax Paste is an excellent 3-in-1 formula that cleans, polishes and protects your paint in one easy step. This carnauba-based formula safely and effectively cleans surface contaminants and light below surface defects like light oxidation, haze, minor scratches and swirls, stains, etchings and more. Polishing oils enhances gloss and shine while wax protection creates a sacrificial barrier between your paint and the environment. This 3-in-1 car wax is also safe and effective on clear coat, single stage, and all glossy paints. Whether working by hand, orbital or dual action polisher, like Meguiar’s MT300 DA Polisher, Cleaner Wax Paste does a great job cleaning, polishing and protecting paint. The paste version includes a high-quality foam applicator for an even application and maximizing results. Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax is also available in a liquid version.
How to prepare the vehicle’s paint before applying Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax
For best results with Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax Paste, start with a freshly washed vehicle. Always use a pH balanced car wash soap like Meguiar’s Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner. Next, run your clean, dry fingertips over the paint. If the paint feels rough to the touch this indicates that you have bonded contaminants on top of your paint. These are things like tree sap mist, industrial fallout, road tar, and paint overspray. Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay Kit comes with everything you need to safely remove contaminants bonded on the paint and leave it as smooth as glass. Next, evaluate the paint for below surface defects. If you have moderate swirls, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etchings, or other below surface defects that the Cleaner Wax can’t remove, you would want to use a product like Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound first.
Tips for applying Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax
- For best results, apply Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax in the shade to a clean, cool surface.
- Apply a small amount of product onto the included applicator pad and work in with light to moderate pressure in an overlapping, circular motion leaving a thin, even coat.
- Apply more product to the pad as needed.
- Continue applying product in the same manner over the entire car.
- Once the wax has dried, remove with a clean, dry Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel. Flip your towel to a clean portion for the final wipe. Please be aware that low temperatures and/or high humidity can prolong the initial curing time of the Cleaner Wax.
- One way to tell if this paste wax is dry and ready to be wiped off is by performing a swipe test. Run an index finger across the wax and if the wax smears, it’s not ready to be wiped off. However, if it's a clear swipe, the wax is ready to be removed.
- Neglected finishes may require more application pressure and passes when working in.

I’ve used the Turtle Wax cleaner wax before, and I must say I definitely prefer that over the Meguiars. However, that was out of stock when I needed it, and I tried this. Compared to the Turtle Wax, this turns out to be more liquid once it starts to warm up, and really soaks into the applicator sponge as you apply it, which I found slightly annoying. I never really found the wax useful until I had some serious oxidation on my car, and it made a huge difference. The pictures show a side-by-side with the treated part on the left (sort of hard to see, sorry.) YMMV, but I found that best results seem to happen when you do multiple “passes” of the wax before letting it dry, and letting it really harden up. That way the polish is more effective. If I had the choice though, I would choose the Turtle Wax as it is more of a paste and hardens up real nice. This doesn’t dry as hard, so you end up buffing it off a little harder.

I’ve used the Turtle Wax cleaner wax before, and I must say I definitely prefer that over the Meguiars. However, that was out of stock when I needed it, and I tried this.
