Choosing a Car Wash
All Meguiar's car washes are non-detergent and offer excellent cleaning ability while lubricating the surface to help dirt and grime glide off the paint instead of grind into the paint. Meguiar's recommends using a ph-balanced, non-detergent car wash using the correct dilution with a high quality wash mitt, like Meguiar's Microfiber Wash Mitt.
- Tip: Never use dish washing detergent as it can strip wax protection, promote oxidation and may lead to premature deterioration of vinyl, plastic and rubber trim.
Ultimate Wash & Wax
Meguiar's is the perfect way to clean and shine your car's finish in-between regular waxing. It helps boost your protection, glossiness and shine.
Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax is compatible with all Meguiar's washes and waxes.
Traditional "Wash & Wax" products are typically weak on suds, shine and protection, but Ultimate Wash & Wax contains a hybrid blend of premium carnauba wax and synthetic polymers that provide protection and shine while you wash.
With Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax you get:
- Hybrid carnauba/polymer wax protection
- Incredible sudsing action that safely lifts dirt & grime
- Enhanced gloss and shine in one easy step

Among those products, Gold Class was always my favorite for its solid cleaning ability, but also its ability to leave a final shine and maintain the previous layer of wax on the car.
I purchased Ultimate Wash and Wax and got my two wash buckets with Grit Guards ready!
I used a fair amount of the product to ensure I had plenty of suds and so that I would be sure to receive any of the wax/protection benefits if indeed they existed.
The smell of Ultimate Wash and Wax is lovely. Furthermore, it looks unlike any wash product I have ever used. It is rather opaque and thick, so there must be something special and different about the product as Meguiar's suggests.
The cleaning ability was solid, if only the slightest bit weaker than Gold Class. The suds were great, and it was a pleasure working with the pleasant smelling product.
I dried the car thoroughly. The result? The car was clean and had a subdued sparkle to it. However, the paint was not very slick and there was not much shine. Certainly, even using a Quick Detailer leaves more shine afterwards than Ultimate Wash and Wax. Therefore, I felt the need to follow up Ultimate Wash and Wax with Ultimate Quick Wax. This restored the shine and slickness to my vehicle, but also questions the legitimacy of using a wash with theoretical protection benefits, if you still need to follow with a wax product.
In conclusion, Ultimate Wash & Wax is another fine product from Meguiar's. It's a pleasure to use and wash your vehicle with, and there are no significant negatives to using the product.Read more ›
Use - 4 cap fulls, just a few oz, literally makes a bout two buckets worth.. the first bucket is EXTRA soapy with bright white thick foam. its amazing.. i feel it in my hands and its thick and u can feel the wax in it.. the first bucket ill use for the car (2011 Ford Edge Limited 303a pckg w/ the limited edition metal flake paint job.. 2nd bucket of suds i get from the 4 cap fulls is a little diluted vs the 1st (im talking the suds are maybe 70%??) so i use that on the tires n rims and etc...
Clean - bam! it blasts thru all sorts of stuff... i have hard lime based water where i live with lots of clay in the ground (Maryland).. so i fight the water quality as well as the dirt on the car is tough to get off. this stuff just is so thick n sudsy, it does an OUTSTANDING job!!
Shine - I will do a once over with a california blade (its a long handle that has this 12-14'' long silicone piece (think silicone wiper blade) and just get the bulk of the water off with it.. than i go back and use my chamois.. and then microfiber for any left over water... let it dry and it shines sparkles and just jaw drops (and for the nit picky people - this is a wash and wax.... gimme a break and get a grip if you think its going to make your car shine like an actual high quality wax job!!!!!!! be realistic...)
After thoughts - the BEST bang for your buck..
Bonus! - as i was driving into work i noticed the rain beaded up on my windshield and zipped right off.Read more ›
This IS a nice product, producing copious suds that last, good at cleaning the vehicle. So, nothing new there.
However, I always wondered about the claims of the wash containing carnauba and polymers. Since one normally has to buff waxes off the car, just HOW did this product leave these wax type finishes on a car? Why wouldn't you have to buff this after using it?
Then it occurred to me. My black car always has a good wax finish - do I NEED to be putting something from a wash in addition to that? When I wash a car, I hose it down, mix up the sudsy shampoo, wash all areas, squeegie off the water with a silicon blade and finish up by wiping up any remaining droplets/moisture with one of those damp, ChamWow type, high absorbancy felt towels. This worked fine, BUT, with the Meguiar's, I always had to follow up on the glass with an additional buffing from a bath type towel. If I didn't buff the windows, even though they had been wiped clean of droplets by the ChamWow, they would be very streaked/spotted in the direct sunlight. So, although I didn't see direct streaking of the paint, I have to assume that it had the same issue as the unbuffed windows, given I wasn't buffing the car paint itself.
I actually had gone to buy a new bottle of the Meguiar's. Hadn't paid much attention to prices, in that I always want a good shampoo. But then I noticed that this product is twice the price of other name brand shampoos such as Black Magic and Rain-X. PLUS, this product calls for 1 oz per GALLON, whereas those others call for 1 oz per BUCKET. So, it's actually FOUR times the price of the others.
So, came back with the Black Magic, which is just a cleaning shampoo.Read more ›
