Usage Guide for Meguiar's Headlight Restoration Kits
Meguiar's offers various headlight restoration kits to help restore your headlights. Depending on their severity and level of oxidation of your headlights, you can choose the headlight restoration kit that is right for you.
For moderately oxidized headlights, Meguiar’s headlight lens correction kit is an easy do-it-yourself kit that requires nothing more than a little elbow grease and contains everything needed to beautify the headlights of any car.
If you are more inclined to use a drill-operated system, then Meguiar’s 1-Step headlight restoration kit and the drill-operated “easy buff” wool pad will help you in restoring your headlights to like-new clarity.
To restore clarity to severely neglected, oxidized and yellowed headlights, then Meguiar’s recommends you use its heavy duty headlight restoration kit. The kit’s sanding pads and finishing discs, along with the “easy buff” wool pad will restore the even the most oxidized headlights.

I used this along with "Qiilu 19Pcs Sponge Polishing Waxing Buffing Pads Kit Foam Polish Pad Set for Car Polisher+ M10 Drill Adapter+ HOOK & LOOP Foam Polishing Disc 3" so I don't have to do so much polishing by hands and the results are nothing but WOW!
Just see my pics and judge for yourself.
There are many products that have a wipe on fluid that causes plastic such as a headlight cover to appear more clear. The surface is sanded (this is the rough polishing) to remove the oxidation and give a uniform surface. Then the chemical is applied. The chemical is not a polish. It is a chemical reaction that is melting the plastic similar to running a flame over a candle that has scratches. Solvent melting of a surface usually degrades the plastic it melts. It may appear smooth but is weaker to scratches.
There are products that fill the gaps so that a surface appears more clear. Put oil on a frosted glass piece and you can then see through it. This product is in that class. There may be some polish in it but it is very little and/or very fine. We found little to no affect. Any product that is wipe on and wipe off is not polishing. Polishing takes a buffer or some elbow grease. We did not wipe on and off but used a buffing wheel. I would guess there is an optically clear filler like car wax in it and that gives the clearing affect for a limited time.
To actually polish plastic you are removing material. If you have deep scratches then you would typically start with a courser polish so you don’t spend all day with a fine polish. This will scratch up the entire surface to remove material till there are no scratches deeper than what the polish makes.. The next stage is to use a finer polish which reduces the scratch depth again. You use finer polishes till you have the clarity that you want. The softer the material the more difficult it is to polish.
There is no magic wipe on “polish” that we have found. If there are not different grit polishes then it is likely that it won’t work well. One of the ones we have had success with is Novus. The higher the number the courser the grit and the cloudier the surface will be without going to a lower number/finer grit afterward. 2 is not bad for optically clear but it is not water clear. If you use a buffing wheel and spin too fast and push too hard you will melt the plastic and make a real mess. A drill may be a better choice if you haven’t worked with a buffer.
Pick a product that meets your needs understanding what it does and if that is the best option. It may be too thin or delicate or soft for a polish.
I bought this product and have been very pleased with the results (see before and after photos). Time for application takes about 3-5 minutes for a pair of headlights and the effects last for about 6 months. Well worth the price.
Recently, I saw a review on CNET where they compared different products for cleaning headlights, and they recommended Meguiar's PlastX. I bought it and some drill buffing pads. When it got here, I covered the paint around the headlights with blue painter's tape, and gave it a try.
WOW! In only a few minutes the headlights went from cloudy to clear! You should have an old towel handy to wipe off the headlight after a few moments to check how it looks. Then you can get picky and go after the spots that you missed and give them another quick buff.
I really can't believe how easy this was and how well it worked. You should absolutely get the drill buffing pads, they make the whole process easy. There are several sellers here that have the same kit. It has a base that connects to your drill and it holds one of the foam pads in place with Velcro.
You also don't need very much of the PlastX to do the job - just a small line on the foam pad will clear up most of the headlight. So a bottle of this will last a long time. And in a few months it will be a quick job to clear up the headlights again.

Watched youtube, as you do, specifically for correcting the black plastic with Megs 205. Thought i'd give this a go as it is apparently milder. By hand it gave a decent improvement on the tail lights (swirling much better, larger scratches remain), but minimal change on the black trim. Then used DA while polishing the rest of the car (Megs 205). Followed up with Menzerna 3800 then Collinite 476 wax and brought the tail lights up to being fully transparent from all angles and the black trim to "90%". NB i didn't over-work any product on the black trim given i was using an over-sized pad and didn't want to do lasting harm to the lacquer or plastic itself.
Is this better than '205 (or 105 then 205) - I can't say. Did the combination I used give me the results I was looking for - absolutely.
As with pretty much all Meguiars products, not cheap (though comparable products in similar bracket) but do the job they say and given how little you use, the cost per job is fine.
Appearance - N/a
Thick white liquid
Usage - 4*
Apply a little to a cloth and massage into a small section. Wipe off with a microfiber cloth. Easy to use. No, drippage, waste or crumbling residue
Results - 3* (4* if you are looking for just a polished look - not to hide scratches)
The fridge cleaned very well. A streak free, polished look
Despite three layers, all scratches still remain.
Side note - the bottle states that you could even repair scratched CD's with this stuff! I haven't tried but based on the fridge ... I'd like to be surprised!
