Washing is defined as the removal of loose contaminants from any surface. For washing Meguiar’s recommends any Meguiar’s Car Wash Soap, Meguiar’s Microfiber Wash Mitt, Meguiar's Water Magnet Microfiber Drying Towel, and two 5-gallon buckets.
Choosing a Car Wash
Meguiar's recommends using a pH-balanced, non-detergent car wash using the correct dilution with a high quality wash mitt, like Meguiar's Microfiber Wash Mitt. All Meguiar's car washes are non-detergent and offer excellent cleaning ability while lubricating the surface to help dirt and grime glide off the paint instead of grind into the paint.
Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax is the perfect way to clean and shine a car's finish in-between regular waxing, boosting its protection, glossiness and shine. Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax is compatible with all Meguiar's washes and waxes. It features hybrid carnauba/polymer wax protection, incredible sudsing action safely lifts dirt, grime, and enhance gloss and shine in one easy step.
Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner is a rich and luxurious product designed to both wash and condition paint in one easy step. The premium formula gently foams away tough dirt, road grime and contaminants without compromising wax protection. Its premium formula gently foams away dirt and grime and its conditioners reveal color and clarity.
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash contains special ingredients that extend the life of the suds. Dirt and grime are quickly loosened and removed while wax protection is preserved. It also contains ingredients with special foam removes dirt and grime without harming the paint. It does not strip wax protection, like dishwashing detergents. Never use dish washing detergent as it may strip wax protection, promote oxidation and lead to premature deterioration of vinyl, plastic and rubber trim.
Two Bucket Method
Meguiar's recommends the “Two Bucket” method in conjunction with the Meguiar's Grit Guard to reduce the chances of inflicting swirls into the paint. The two-bucket method makes use of one bucket for a wash solution and a second bucket with just plain water to use as a rinse for Meguiar's Microfiber Wash Mitt.
- 1. Use the water bucket to dunk the Microfiber Wash Mitt into the soapy water bucket and wash a panel or section of the vehicle.
- 2. Dunk the Microfiber Wash Mitt and any loose contaminants it picked up, into the rinse bucket, swish it around and wring it out.
- 3. The Grit Guard is simply a baffle in the bottom of the bucket, preventing loose contaminants from being dispersed back into the water the next time the wash mitt is rinsed.
- 4. Now dunk the mitt into the soapy water bucket and wash the next panel or section of the vehicle. As an added safety precaution insert a Grit Guard into the soapy water bucket as well.

After using Meguiar's "Water magnet" I'm very satisfied with the results. The pictures below are from using it on my son's car. I found it most effective to open the towel completely and carefully drag it across the car surfaces. At 22"x30" it covers a large surface area and sucks up the water very well. It's easy to wring out, and I only had to wring it out 5-6 times to dry his entire car.
Like most Amazon shoppers, I count on honest, unbiased reviews. I hope you have found this review helpful in making your purchase decision.
Fact is that this towel is skimpy-thin compared to what's available and should be about 6" wider in both directions. Maybe it's ok if you own a Mini Cooper but even then I'm disappointed in Meguiar's quality on this one.
There are far better, not to mention larger, microfiber towels out there for drying and since drying towels last a long time they are worth the extra price for quality & size. I'm not saying a drying towel has to be 'plush' to do a better job - I'm saying that my two existing / remaining towels that survived the cut (sorry tore tags off long ago) work way better. One's white & twice as thick as the Megiuar's & the other is blue with deeper pockets and also thicker - maybe ChemGuys not sure. Whatever - forget the number of positive reviews they've just never used a proper drying towel before, so do yourself a long term favor and keep looking.
*edit - I found the name of the white waffle weave (thicker, denser, with deeper pockets) microfiber towel in photo - it's the Aquis Microfiber Hair Towel Waffle 19 x 39. It really is a cut above the other waffle towels designed for cars, quality weave and they don't fray. The size of 19 x 39 is ideal, it holds far more water (not just because of size), and dries quickly. (Tip - try to squeegee windows first with water blade to remove excess water. Though 'water blades' are technically not the greatest idea for use on clearcoat everyone uses them anyways - the issue being if you missed cleaning a spot on your car and you later use a water blade to evacuate water the silicone blade could burnish the dirty area into paint). Aquis makes other towels and sizes so be careful. The one I have found to work is 19 x 39 and has a "square" label (not rectangular) that you will need to cut the threads off of to remove. Can't vouch for thickness of their other sizes. These are microfiber 'Hair Drying' towels, so see if your woman has one already, just don't tell her what you're about to experiment with it for if you want to live.
I find making a quick pass with another towel and using this for the final pass works well. Wringing it out helps but once it's saturated it doesn't do a very good job of drying like an Absorber does.
I may buy another eventually if they are to go on sale but will continue to use the method mentioned above until then.
However, when I used it, I was pleasantly surprised. Despite being a little thin, this thing really soaks up water. Its soft enough I'm not worried about scratching the surface, and its small enough I don't have to constantly avoid dragging it on the ground.
It also holds up well to trips through the washing machine. Great drying towel!
