The best Linux media center remote to be found

After searching thoroughly for the perfect Linux media center remote this one almost nails it. Almost all buttons on this remote send actual keyboard key-codes which means that configuring them for use with Linux is not only possible but is also easy. The only button that doesn't send a key-code is the "A.I. Power" button in the upper-right corner of the remote. The learning function of the remote works with my TV but was unable to learn codes for the IR Roku remote. It is worth noting that the air-mouse functionality of the remote is disabled by default after returning from sleep mode. Pressing the button to the upper-left of the D-Pad activates the air-mouse which then turns off again by pressing on the D-Pad. This is ideal for me since I barely use the air-mouse and it is a pain on many remotes to disable the air-mouse functionality but retain usage of the OK/Back buttons which are also used for left-click/right-click. The buttons on the front of the remote have excellent tactile feedback, especially the D-Pad and OK buttons which are used most heavily.

I'm giving this a 5 star rating because of how many remotes I went through looking for the perfect Linux media center remote. This is the only one that worked without significant effort. On some remotes like the Mele F10 Pro half the buttons can't even be used with Linux. Despite how great it is the remote could improve in the areas below.
--It could use a few more buttons. My ideal remote would include a stop button and pageup/pagedown or channelup/channeldown buttons.
--The A.I. Power button is not device specific AKA the power button cannot learn IR codes. One cannot configure the "A.I. Power" button with different unique IR codes for both the "TV" and "STB" devices. This wouldn't be a problem but the normal power button cannot learn any IR codes. This means that my remote has two different power buttons but neither can be configured to turn off an individual IR device.
--Cannot learn Roku IR codes

Not a bad remote for the price nowadays (Fall 2013).

Probably one of the better remotes with a keyboard on it (for now).

It uses radio-frequency for the wireless instead of InfraRed so you don't need the device to be line-of-sight with the USB receiver dongle that comes with it. (the dongle appears to the host device as if it were a USB keyboard and USB mouse)

The wireless signal is good, but you can't reprogram the buttons on the remote (e.g. some are hardcoded to only be left/right mouse clicks, which don't work as well as keyboard-presses in software like OpenELEC / XBMC media center; I had to modify the XBMC keymap.xml file a bit).

You're unable to disable the "air mouse" function (that moves the cursor on the screen based on how you wave the remote, like a Wii controller), so I just modified OpenELEC / XBMC to use a blank mouse cursor icon.

This remote disables whatever side is on the bottom when it's held, which is good, but it means that you have to hold the remote relatively flat in order to get it to work most of the time.

I own three of these and a number of other wireless keyboard remotes, this one is currently the best out there.

Almost there!

The concept and form factor are almost perfect for a HTPC, but it falls short in two critical areas: the keyboard really, really, REALLY needs backlighting, and it needs some sort of useful transport controls on the other side. I'm using it with an MK808B Android PC stick running XBMC and various other media apps and it's almost perfect for that. But in a dark environment such as a home theater typing even just a user ID and password or a URL is impossible without at least some ambient light. Additionally for some obscure reason a few letters--plus all shift characters--are printed in orange, which unlike the white characters are impossible to see even with a little light. On the D-pad side it would be very nice to have some Play/Pause/Fwd/Rew and PageUp/PageDown buttons for instant access to those functions without fishing for on-screen controls. In XBMC at least there is probably a solution by figuring out the key codes of those special keys at the bottom and configuring them in the keymap file. Still, just having a backlight would suffice for me and make this a five star product.

Best option available (2013-10) but not quite perfect

I bought this to pair with an MK908II. This is not my first product in this category and have several other similar mini-pc/htpc devices and corresponding wireless/BT keyboards/track pads for HTPC (GoogleTV, Briteview, traditional HTPC etc).

Some of my pros/cons have been already mentioned - I will include them just to confirm and give an accurate overall experience.

Pros:
+ Small form factor, best way to describe it is as similar to a Wii remote.
+ Keyboard is awesome to have on the flip side.
+ Very easy setup - plug in the dongle and you're ready to go.
+ Good range - I'm able to use this across the whole living room without issues.

Cons:
- No back-lit keyboard. This is almost a MUST. This is very difficult to use in low-light.
- The number (which are in the form of FN+keys) keys and a few letters are in a VERY hard to read dark Orange. This is hard to read in full-light and nearly impossible in low-light.
- The remote automatically goes to sleep after so many minutes. This saves power but when you turn it back on it will interrupt whatever content you are viewing (at least in my experience so far).
- There are no play/pause buttons but you can potentially program buttons for use with apps like XMBC (previously mentioned)

Overall:
This seems to be currently the best option available and gets the job done. If this had back-lighting alone I would buy several more of them to outfit the rest of the TVs in the house and paid with android sticks to give as gifts.

Side note:
I did not run across any instructions for programming the IR remote features. I haven't looked into this yet so it very well could be simple but was surprised that there was no mention of it in the included instructions.
