Bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter who is just learning how to use her scissors.
I know she will love it. I was a preschool teacher for years and kids really need these
types of activities. For those of you thinking of teaching this to your kids, a rule of thumb
that will help is to have the child hold the scissors in front of their tummy, and move the
paper, not the scissors. But if you teach them to hold them at tummy level, and remind
them a few times, the teaching will go so much easier on you.

Holy thank you Amazon Reviews and Questions for putting my mind at ease!! I was looking for toddler scissors for my 2 year old but I was hesitant about introducing a new "toy" that could potentially be used for hair cutting of her nearly non existent hair. This scissors is ALL plastic and no metal blade!!! My husband looked at this thing and gave me the "what you paid $8 for plastic scissors, it won't cut" look.... and to his surprise, CUTTTT and it even made the noise that a normal scissors would make when cutting- AND it was a sharp straight cut! BOOM, win for mom!! The kiddo has to work to open it with one hand, but she's slowly getting the hang of it and guess what... it works for left or right handed kiddos because mine is still working out the kinks on which hand she wants to use, both ways cut nicely! The pages are a little thicker and are colorful and fun with lots of different things to cut, changing directions, different shapes and it's perfect for the beginner. Melissa and Doug brand, we are huge fans!!

Great workbook, but don't bother with the scissors

I bought this for my 4 year old to practice her scissor skills. At first it seemed like a great workbook. The pictures are adorable & I loved how quite a few of them are activities after you cut the page (some are puzzles, the pumpkin has triangles & a mouth you can cut out to make a jack o lantern).

My only complaint is the scissors that Come with the workbook. They're not real scissors. They're lightweight plastic. At first, I thought maybe that could be great for safety reasons & my daughter wouldn't cut up anything she wasn't supposed to (which was the motivation behind making them that way, I'm sure). But as we went on to more complicated pages (anything that wasn't a straight cut), it was almost impossible for my daughter to cut anything. She'd just end up frustrated & in tears. I ended up letting her try a pair of regular scissors & she was able to cut out the pages with no problem. It's a bummer, because the scissors are brightly colored & glittery, so my daughter wants to use those scissors, but she can't.

In summary, the workbook is great; the scissors are awful.

I bought this for my 2.75 year old to play with on vacation. She's a smart little thing and very curious. She loved using the scissors to cut along the lines. I had to help with as she is not old enough to do it on her own, but she really enjoyed it and it was a fun activity for the two of us. It did frustrate her some since her hands are a bit too small for the scissors, but it was a mostly fun learning exercise. The scissors don't have a blade so I wasn't concerned with her cutting herself or anything else besides paper. She could also play with the cut outs when she was finished (assuming they weren't cut too terribly which did happen to some of the more complicated sheets). I don't think she would have enjoyed it any earlier than 2.75, so I'd recommend it for that age and older.

Well Done Early Scissors Skills Activity Book

I think this is a super cute activity book. I got this knowing that for my kiddo, I was going to be having to do hand over hand for pretty much all of it because of where he's at developmentally. What I think is cool about this is that the items cut from the pages can be turned into other things once they are cut out, like matching games or puzzles. I have seen other cutting activity books when my daughter was younger that didn't have that kind of double use. The plastic scissors included with our set also do cut paper well, which isn't always the case with the plastic ones. For us, having these come with a plastic set of scissors was a real selling point, because of the nature of our son's disabilities it's not really safe to work with him on these skills using a metal pair. I also think the pages in the book do a good job of progressing in terms of cutting difficulty. However, for kiddos who have more difficulties with fine motor, this book alone isn't going to be enough practice for each type of line to be cut to progress to one page after another in this. In our household with our little man, this is going to be a skill that is going to take much more time to progress, and this certainly isn't something he enjoys doing or using because it feels so difficult for him. So I've based my review on how useful or enjoyable I think this item would be to a more typically developing child.

Love this book. My daughter received it for Christmas a couple years ago and really enjoyed cutting the shapes out. I was surprised when she started Kindergarten but how much better she was at using scissors (and even pens which I think may have also stemmed from the dexterity she learned from using scissors) than the other children. I have now purchased this book for my godson for Christmas and am excited for him to use it. The scissors are safe with no metal blade (all plastic, not sharp). My daughter still has them and actually just used them today to cut through cardstock. This book is a simple concept that really teaches valuable skills.

I am giving this 5 stars even though my little one has gotten bored of cutting quite quickly. Using scissors is one of the few skills taught before school so I thought it was a good idea. My 3 year old thought it was fun the first couple of days but got bored, which is no fault of the product. My child just prefers puzzles right now but I really like the design of the product and will bring it out again in a month or two. I would recommend as the product is good and another child might find this very fun
