Pros: puzzle pieces are labeled with shapes so you know what pieces go with which puzzle.
Cons: smaller than expected, missing two pieces, the elephant puzzle has an extra piece. :-(
with Alzheimer's. She was diagnosed with AD 2 years ago
after it was starting to become obvious that something
negative was happening to her thought processes.
When she got her first puzzle, a 12 piece one, she said that
she used to do puzzles when she was a child, but they were
not as hard as this one was.
She has done several of these simpler puzzles of 12 to 60
pieces and seems to really enjoy them and she feels a
true sense of accomplishment after each one.
We would recommend these as entertainment for anyone
with dementia or other mental challenges.
The puzzle survived through my eldest and my middle child, and is still in great shape for when my youngest turns three. All three of the kids like the bright and non-cartoony pictures of the animals. We have fun counting the legs, talking about which animals are biggest, which have stripes, which has the longest tail, etc.
The storage box is great. The one we got was quite stiff at first; we had to sand it down to get it to slide in and out easily, but once we did that, we really appreciated the box. I see it as being threefold awesome: the top is just the right size, and with raised edges, to complete one of the puzzles in. It is very sturdy and has stood the abuse of three kids. It is also perfectly sized. The divided compartments provide ample space to house the 12 pieces of each puzzle, but they are compact enought that the box has quite a small storage footprint.
I would recommend this product, and other similar Melissa and Doug puzzles, to anyone with kids in the 3-5 range.
