Load, raise, and haul four new vehicles along an imaginary highway with the Car Carrier from Melissa & Doug. This quality, all-wood truck makes it easy to load four brightly colored cars onto a long ramp that folds into a two-level carrier, allowing your child to deliver the vehicles wherever they may need to go!
Hit the Road with Sturdy Wooden Construction
The Car Carrier is made with an eye for sturdy, dependable detail that allows your child to play for hours without interruption. The long ramp folds easily along its hinges, which encourages and facilitates your child's exploration with the way certain hinges and constructions may move to create new formations. This design encourages imaginative play while simultaneously promoting coordination and the development of fine motor skills.
When its ramp is unfolded, the Car Carrier measures 5-3/4 by 12 by 3 inches (H x W x D). At this size, the toy is small enough for young hands to grab and push or pull along, but large enough to necessitate full-body movement if the child wants to move the Car Carrier along wandering paths.
Experience Different Terrains
Though the Car Carrier works fine on all terrains, our testers found that the smooth, plastic wheels turned most easily on surfaces that create some friction, like carpet or short grass. In addition, the individual cars can, of course, continue on their own journeys separate from the car carrier itself. Cars are also designed specifically to fit with wooden train sets, allowing for speedy play along racetracks and with other vehicles.

Here is the background: A local non-profit was having a free toy testing event for lead. I brought in some older toys and, on a whim, I grabbed all the cars associated with this product. I was shocked to find out that the blue car tested positive for lead (63 ppm using a x-ray fluorescence machine). I called the 800 number for "Melissa and Doug." They assured me that all their products meet or exceed current regulations and that they do consistent testing for all their paints. They also said that they test using a "leachability" test which is a more accurate test than the x-ray fluorescence. They said they would send me the test results of that particular paint batch so I could review the results, but I was never sent anything. In the end, I am really dissappointed that a company promoting safe, non-toxic toys would allow any lead in their paint at all - and now I am reluctant to buy anything from this company again.
The cars fall off the back when pushing it around. My toddler solves this by putting B. Squeeze Blocks on the back end or simply turning the trailer over and putting two cars in the wells created.
The truck cannot roll because the wheel wells were glued together poorly and one wheel sticks.
The peg to hold the trailer on is SO long! As someone with a permanent scar on my face from falling on one of those split apart egg counting toys from the 70/80s, I fear my son putting out an eye on this toy if he falls on it just right.
Overall, the truck is full of rough edges and nicks; even painted over, they still cause the truck to look beat up. It looks just slapped together or like someone hated their job when they made it.
Needless to say, I am disappointed, my husband is disappointed, and my toddler is not nearly so enamored with it as he was before since we watch him carefully when he's playing with it. As it was a gift, there unfortunately is no way to return it; all I can hope for is an exchange, and I don't even really want that, honestly.
I bought the Janod Multi Zoo since, and it is solid feeling, there are no nicks, its paint doesn't look a mess, the peg is shorter; it seems a quality product for the price.Read more ›

Try haba and the German toys, a little more money but they last forever and have quality you can feel.
