We initially got the vehicles book for my 3 year old son to play with in the car. He and his 5 year old sister both had so much fun with it, I decided to order a second one. She's currently very into all things fairy and princess, so this was a perfect choice. She and my son still trade back and forth between the vehicles and fairies.
Use of these is ridiculously easy. The page is white with black lines. Once you add water, the white disappears and a colorful scene underneath is revealed. Once it dries, the page turns white again. You can color this over and over and over again. Eventually some of the white will inevitably get a few scratches in it, but that doesn't really take away from the enjoyment.
I've included a few pictures so you can see all of the scenes that are included in the book. It has 4 pages to color, all with different fairy related pictures.
I highly recommend these books. I know they make several versions, and based on the 2 we have they're all fun and entertaining. They're absolutely wonderful for the car or a plane ride...or even waiting at a restaurant.
I stopped at a dollar store-type place and bought some (slightly) cheaper versions of this toy before our return trip, for some new fun options on the way home. They were terrible. Get the Melissa and Doug version. I would've but they didn't have them in the store I stopped in, and we didn't plan ahead.
With these toys, they don't last forever. Eventually, they start to require more water to make the white disappear, and then the white comes back more quickly. That's happening to my daughter's now, but after how much use we got out of it, it's amazing.
Pro tip: when filling the little paintbrush in a moving car, trap water inside a straw, then transfer it to the brush. the first try I just carefully poured from my water bottle. It wasn't terrible, but not great either. The straw is the way to go.
My kid has been coloring on them for months, and they are still great. The only reason they are in bad shape is because she took some real crayons to them. We're trying to teach her that you can only color with the water pen for these books. So the 3 we originally bought are kinda shot, but I have 3 more she hasn't even seen yet. This one, the fairy one is not my favorite. The colors don't contrast enough because the princesses are mostly pale skinned and light haired. Would have liked to see some diversity in this.
