Buy this toy it is fun and a good height, and for some reason, they love it.
Educationally: The toy so far is meeting my expectations. My son is saying "ball" from time to time while playing with the tower, and manipulating the balls through the holes with the mallet helps him work on his fine-motor skills. And, as his ability to identify colors improves, the tower will be a good tool to help him differentiate between the various colors of the balls, mallet, and tower.
In agreement with the con(s) posted by other reviewers: The only problem I have with the tower is the fact that it and the balls and mallet already look beaten up. Because they are all wood, I have no doubt they will stand the test of time with my toddler. But, aesthetically, it literally took just a few minutes for my son to have all of the pieces looking pretty worn out from just normal play (no biting, scratching, etc.). Following my review, I'm going to try to upload some pictures.
My disagreement with some of the other reviews: This toy is designed with children 2-7 years of age in mind. My son is just a few months away from his 2nd birthday. So, I was comfortable buying the tower and letting him play with it right away. But, I've noticed some of the people who gave this toy a bad review posted their comments based on children who were WELL BELOW the age recommendation for this toy. Therefore, I do think those bad reviews are completely unwarranted.
I would expect this toy to have been much better quality. Don't bother with this toy.
This simple toy has captivated my daughter. And not just for a few minutes or a day, but every single day since it came in the mail.
It's a simple toy: four balls, a tower and a mallet. The balls are kept from falling by some rubber O rings, but the rest of the toy is wood. My daughter hates holding onto anything so she really isn't interested in the mallet yet, but loves pushing the balls through the holes and retrieving them when they reach the bottom. She replaces them and does it again. Over and over.
My older children have also been playing with the toy and beating the heck out of it. They said they wish there was a larger one for older kids! One thing I have noticed is the balls, when hit by the mallet by my older children, have slight dents in them. (I have included a close up photo for you to see.) The color has not been removed, but there are dents in the wooden balls.
I am really pleased with this toy and highly recommend it to anyone who has a toddler. The price is amazing as well. It's a win, win. A captivating toy at an amazing price.
