Very disappointed for a melissa and doug product. So badly made. Colors on the block were smudged when it arrived. The wood is very inferior, when you pound the peg if you miss ( which a toddler is very likely to do) the wood gets "dented" and chipped even!. The pegs sot too tight in the holes difficult for an adult to pull out or pound down. Pegs don't go down straight when pounded they slant a bit and then you have to keep straightening it. There is some sort of a rubber ring around the holes to keep the pegs tightly in place and this rubber ring breaks off and can be swallowed. Im terribly disappointed for the first time with M&D toy.

Really bad quality. The paint was chipping and running off within minutes, one peg was pretty much fixed to the item so even as an adult I couldn’t hammer it in to try and loosen it, and the wood is so soft it’s completely dented in just 5 minutes. It also has rubber grommit things holding the pegs in except the grommets come out! A huge choking hazard if you have little ones around that put things in their mouths still. Sending back for a refund.

Too late to return but I won’t let my grandkids play with this now. Just saw this splintered piece that was clearly seen during painting since it was painted over. Thought these Melissa and Doug products would be superior to some of the ‘junk’ being sold. Very disappointed and too late to return it.

This is not the best pounding bench. The pegs are very loose and push very easily which isn't the point. My 1 1/2 year old can pull them out and push them through which he likes (for a short while) but isn't the point of this toy. My older daughter had a similar but older Fisher-Price model of this toy and spent hours of delight pounding. This really wasn't worth the $ even though it's inexpensive.

So far, so good; the pegs are still offering resistance. The other reviews indicate that they may loosen. If that does happen, and the pegs start to offer no resistance, I know that Melissa and Doug will offer a replacement. Or a refund.
I would change the design, so that the pegs could fall free of the bench once they are through. That is part of the satisfaction that a child feels. But I do understand the rationale behind this part of the design: the pegs are less likely to get lost.
NONETHELESS, why can’t the old bench of the ‘50s be made? No plastic parts, pegs offered huge resistance, lasted forever. Wish I’d never given away the one my three boys played with for a decade, which my 3 siblings and I played with for two decades.

Great toy for any child! My 15 month old son recieved this toyand really likes tge hammer, he is still working on his hand eye coordination. This is a great toy to practice that, I love the simplicity of this toy. It is a great addition to all of the other Melissa & Doug toys that he already has. Made very well, it has taken a beating already and no paint chipping, so I'm very happy with that! Obviously over time that may occur, but I have great expectations that it won't happen at all bc non of the other toys of this brand has chipped. I highly recommend this toy. It's a great buy and a classic toy.

The Pound-A-Peg toy is a very simple and well made toy. My daughter (8 months) is able to hold the hammer although it is a little heavy for her so she just about manages to hit the pegs at a funny angle!

The pegs are held in place somewhat so it does take proper hitting for them to go through and they are also fully removable. The stands on the side are symmetrical so you can just turn it over once the pegs have been hit one way.

The wood pegs are totally smooth, my daughter loves to chew on them, the only non smooth bit is the hammer, the corners are.. well, corners.

It arrived with a red mark on the beech wood, about an inch in size. It wasn't a problem for me but perhaps if I was expecting it to arrive perfect it would have been.

This toy saved the day! My granddaughter was getting a bit wild (pretty sure she was getting tired) so we opened this present up for her to play with.
She sat and just pounded and pounded ... I got out a crab mallet and everyone took turns helping her.

This was a last minute thought to buy to begin with because she was hitting my kitchen chairs with a crab mallet a week ago ... and this toy is exactly what she needed. I am very happy with this purchase. She took this toy home with her ... but I am going to purchase a second one to keep at our house.

We have a number of Melissa & Doug toys in our house, and bought this as we knew that they were a good company; however, this toy simply isn't up to their usual standards. We thought that the first one that we received was simply faulty, as one of the pegs fell straight through to the other side without even being touched. We contacted Amazon, who sent a replacement, which seemed fine; however, two days after we received it, one of the pegs on the replacement toy fell straight through (after not an awful lot of use). Over two months, four more of the pegs have come loose, so for the moment at least, our little boy can only "pound" three pegs, and will eventually be left with no pegs to hit!

This is an attractive product, it seems pretty sturdy and our little one likes playing with it; however, all of that is irrelevant given that it doesn't do what it is meant to do owing to a design fault that needs to be addressed. A disappointing product from an otherwise good company.

Ce petit jouet en bois est équipés de caoutchoucs qui retiennent les petites quilles en bois.
En tapant dessus, elles tombent donc doucement.
C'est excellent pour développer l'habileté manuelle des petits à partir de 2 ans. Le jouet est très beau, très doux, avec de belles couleurs. Cela peut permettre aussi de travailler les couleurs avec l'enfant en lui demandant de n'enfoncer que les maillets jaunes par exemple.
