Perfect for a 2 year old toddler’s grip. Loved these! I didn’t want a regular paintbrush because I wasn’t afraid he would poke himself in the eye. Not with these. So glad they were offered.
I bought these paint brushes for my daughter when she was two years old. The bulb-like handles are good for babies and toddlers who can't correctly grip a normal paintbrush. They're nice and fat for their little hands to grasp. They come in four different colors (red, yellow, blue, and green) but they're all the same brush. The brush tip is thick, which is good for little ones. My daughter had a set of four watercolors in these same four colors, so because she was too little to know to rinse her brush before she dipped it in another color, mixing colors accidentally, I taught her to use the green brush when she wanted green paint, blue when she wanted blue, etc. Now she's three and has been gripping paintbrushes and pencils correctly so we don't use these anymore. They are going to be given away to her two-year-old cousin. These brushes have held up well in the year we have had them. I haven't had any problem with them. The handles haven't cracked or broken. The brush hairs haven't fallen out or broken. The paint has rinsed out of them well. You can stand these brushes up on their ends, which is great for keeping the tabletop clean when there is paint on the brushes. It also keeps them from rolling away. We used these brushes with Crayola watercolors and paints, and with those products, they have worked perfectly.
These are perfect for little hands to hold, bright colors make it so you can use as a teaching tool to learn colors with your toddler great value for the price
I bought these brushes for kids that I babysit on the weekend. I don't know if either of them are going to be great artists one day (they're far to young to know yet) but they do enjoy painting which is an activity that makes babysitting them a dream. Since their greatest joy in life is a quiet and colorful project that I can show their parents when they get home I am more than happy to pay for an item like this since the handles are large enough that the kids can get a solid grip but the brushes themselves are small enough that Mom and Dad can still see that it's a 'horse' and not a blob. When I first bought the brushes I didn't think the handles would make that much of a difference but to kids who don't yet have a firm grip strength these apparently work really well.
I also clean the brushes when the children are done and it is very simple as long as I get to it on time. So while my hands-on experience isn't quite what they're made for I can say for certain that the brand has two fans in Hannah and Jeremiah who are both a little young to write their own review. I'm still waiting to see how long they last but so far it's working well.
Summary: They're brushes so there isn't too much to say, they work well, the kids like them and it keeps them occupied for a large portion of the afternoon. I've already suggested the parents buy them again if these ones wear out.
Thick, great quality brush with a nice thick handle that is super easy for a 16 month old to hold and they come clean so easily.
Every paint brush before this has come apart during my toddlers first use. I left these outside in the sun for over 2 weeks with gobs of dried paint. I soaked them in plain water for about 10 minutes and they were like new again. We have used these over 10 times (outside on rocks, cement, bugs ; ) and they still have not lost a single bristle (if they did, it is not noticeable).
These brushes are great, and just the right size for little toddler hands, they also fit perfectly in the M&D nonspill cups which I also purchased. However my only complaint is the bristles are super stiff and are all the same size, they should make the bristles a bit more pliable and perhaps different thicknesses and angles to add some dimension and texture to the artwork. Other than that, awesome product, very durable and well made. Also the handles are hallow plastic which also was a bit of a drawback bc they tip over easily if you try and stand them up wherever baby is painting. But again great product, just suggest a few improvements. :)
Bought these brushes for my two year old little sister and now, I can't get her to stop painting! 10/10 would definitely recommend for your little one! My sister actually hated painting before I got her these brushes because other kid's paint brushes were too hard for her to hold in her small hands, so they would slip and she would mess up and get so upset! The large handles let her easily grasp the brushes and now she can paint confidently and happily. The fact that the handles are colorful is also great-she matches the paints she uses to the brushes and it's a wonderful educational exercise. She's not the only one that loves the brushes-they are so easy for me to wash! The paint comes off so easily, even if I don't wash them right away. It makes paint clean up much less frustrating and they dry fast too. Great gift for any small child! Can't wait to try other Melissa & Doug products.
The four-piece Melissa & Doug Jumbo Brush Set is the handiest thing I've come across in quite sometime to add fun to your art projects. The colorful, over-sized brush handles are especially well suited and alluring for kids. I invited an 8-year-old neighbor kid to try them out and he wasted no time in mastering their use. The brushes themselves are soft, yet durable in splashing paint on whatever surface you choose. The brushes come in their own specially-designed see-through tote bag, which is easily stored anywhere, and they clean up nicely and easily with nothing but warm water and soap. Yes, these brushes are "perfectly shaped for little hands" (as the tote indicates), but honestly, I've had a lot of fun with these. Highly recommended to anyone!
Obviously make sure you use washable paint, but these are sooo easy to clean. Run them under hot water for a few seconds and they're good as new to use again. They're a bit top heavy, which is my only complaint. But great for a two year old to use!
