We have several Melissa and Doug Learning Mats. These crayons color pretty well on the mats, wash off really easily with soap and water, and are really durable. Our son is 4 and pushes pretty hard, breaking most crayons, but these are encased in plastic so it's much harder to break these crayons!! They also work with many other write on/wipe off surfaces making them even better!!

I purchased these crayons to go with the Melissa & Doug learning mats. I was surprised at how easily these crayons wiped off of the mats, a BIG plus!! The only thing is they don't stay in their holders that well. I would buy these again but I have found them in stores for $1.99, much less than I purchased them for here.

PROS:
-VEGETARIAN: Melissa and Doug crayons are supposed to be free of animal byproducts which is great if you don’t want to risk your kids ingesting a non-kosher animal. That’s why I got these.
-EASY CLEAN UP: Cleaned up easily from skin, nails, clothes, carpet, and plastic table and chairs.
-EXTRA BREAKAGE PROTECTION: I liked the protective plastic housing for the crayons, which would help some kids not to break the crayon. However my curious toddler took them out of the housing so he made a mess everywhere. With training these plastic things would work great!

CONS:
-POOR OVERALL DURABILITY: They are pretty waxy when trying to color and don’t seem to last long.
-UGLY WAXY COLORING: The coloring itself isn’t the best. Seemed flaky and waxy, not very pretty. I tried to color darker and lighter with them but they are really not good crayons.

OVERALL REVIEW: I don’t plan to purchase these again. I hope to try colored pencils or markers from M&D instead, which are also supposed to be vegetarian.

I was very disappointed in the quality of this product. I purchased the Melissa and Doug curriculum sheets where it states for you to utilize this product in order to write the answers on. When you begin to write it smears it's smudges it is not a clean line. Even when you do not press down hard it's still is a mess. I was very disappointed in this product and I love Melissa and Doug products. On the curriculum sheets it's state that you can either use these or a number two pencil. And number two pencil does not work well, so I was excited about ordering these, thinking that they will be just perfect since it is also Melissa and Doug, but it was not.

They don’t stay in the crayon holder. They break super easily. I feel like most of the crayon is wasted bc they break and you have to throw them away. This was my second set and I was hoping it was just a packaging error with my first set on why they kept falling out of the holder but it was exactly the same with the second set. I bought these for my 1 yr old granddaughter because of teething everything is in her mouth but she wants to play with pens and such. I love that you control how much of the crayon is exposed. She did immediately bite of the tip of one but didn't like it and quickly discovered making marks on paper. The hard plastic case just makes it that she can explore them naturally (putting them in her mouth is part of that stage) without eating a crayon so my daughter doesn't have to wait to introduce colouring and it isn't a constant out of your mouth that she had to do with other first crayons.
