Addressing Negative Comments of Previous Reviewers:
-We have a mix of Mellisa & Doug, Circo (Target brand) and First learning puzzles. They are all wooden puzzles with the little plastic knobs. They fit in the rack with no problem. I don't need to leave a space between them as others have suggested. I think the people who had that problem may have had puzzles with wooden knobs. It could also be that Melissa & Doug changed the puzzle rack at some point.
--As for the out-dated product picture complaint, --I think Amazon has since fixed that. The rack we got looks just like the one in the picture. I posted a picture of ours with puzzles in it. It's the picture with the puzzle that looks like a collection of art supplies.
---sharp ends? There are no rough ends. Our rack sits on a wooden book shelf and it has not made a single mark on the wood.
Cannot go wrong with this rack!
I'm buying one for my house, as well. It has tipped ends that won't scratch my hardwoods, which makes my husband happy, and it means that I can buy a couple of more puzzles because they store so easily, and more puzzles, of course, please my children.
This does not fit standard size puzzles well. We have one of the puzzles pictured, and it does not fit! From the picture you can see that it is a trapezoidal rack. The front end, where you insert the puzzle, is too wide. It is not until you have the puzzle about halfway back that it actually is resting on both sides. This makes it very easy to accidentally insert the puzzle on two different levels. The puzzles then slide around quite a bit, making it easy to try to pull one puzzle out and have 3 more come crashing down with it. We are returning this rack immediately. This is probably a flaw in the redesign. As you can tell, most of the negative reviews are from when it was redesigned without the pads. This should be listed as a new item on Amazon, because the reviews are very misleading. THIS IS A NEWER MODEL - NOT THE SAME AS THE ONE GETTING THE GOOD REVIEWS! We went to Target today and bought the Circo puzzle storage rack. It was $19.99, which is more expensive, but it comes with 4 puzzles. So, it's worth it overall. And the Circo rack has a nice tight fit to secure the puzzles, but not so tight that little hands can't get them out.
I currently have 7 puzzles in it, so it is not full.
To address some questions and past reviewer complaints:
1) Yes, the picture now matches the product you get.
2) There are NO sharp edges or metal pieces, I think maybe that reviewer possibly got a bad one. I do not see how this would scratch up wood unless maybe you slide it back and forth a lot. The pieces of metal that touch the bottom surface are all rounded and smooth.
3) It DOES hold peg puzzles and the big knob puzzles. I am attaching photos.
The M&D puzzles that have the small plastic knobs fit perfectly, and you do not need to skip any rows.
The M&D puzzles that have the large wooden knobs (baby's first puzzles) also fit, but you need to leave at least one row above empty.
I have have a M&D gear puzzle sitting on top of the rack and because the metal supports protrude just a bit, it doesn't slide off.
I honestly do not understand some of the more negative reviews. I also think people saying the knob puzzles don't work are referring to the wooden ones, and are expecting to be able to use every rack.
Pictures: I took a few from different angles and stacking the puzzles differently.
The two puzzles on the bottom have the colored small plastic pegs.
The next two up are the magnetic fishing and bug catching puzzles. Note that they can be stored with the fishing/bug catching magnetic pole resting on top, and can still be stacked without leaving a space in between.
The next puzzle up is a M&D farm animal giant wooden knob puzzle, it's barn-shaped and still fits in the rack.Read more ›

It does exactly what it claims; my only concern was that it arrived bent. It was easier to bend it back to a usable shape than to return it. ;)Published 10 days ago by L. Belcher

This rack is good for my storage purposes. However, the rack slots are narrow. You can't fit knob puzzles, sound puzzles, or a bunch of peg puzzles. Read morePublished 19 days ago by LW
