My two year old enjoys sorting these blocks out, they have helped her learn colors. She brings a block to me and i say the color, then she repeats it before throwing said block at me.
My only problem is that the stand is exreamly sturdy too. My daughter had taken to holding the base by the red colored prongand spinning it above her head or towards my head. We ended up having to confinscate it to prevent head injury to my husband and I.
Overall, our daughter adores this toy. It is her number 1. For mommy and daddy...not so much.
I suggest buying this toy for a toddler that is older than two, or buying helmets and bubble wrap along with this toy. Possibly even sanding the corners of the base to be more rounded.
I haven't had trouble with students trying to eat the wood pieces. The pain seems to be sprayed on and is hard to bite off. The bar is 2.25" wide, 13" long and 3/4 inch high, so easy for young hands to pick up.
I asked them to give the toy back to me so I could replace it, of course. Once I saw it, I was honestly surprised (even after their description) at the amount of paint that was flaking off the blue blocks at all the edges - just by handling the blocks in a normal manner, nothing rough like a kid might do - so, I did something I NEVER do, and emailed the company about it.
The next day I got reply from Melissa & Doug asking me to give them a call so they could get some more information. The customer service rep I spoke to was pretty surprised and appalled at my description of the paint flaking, particularly since this toy was right out of the package. Without having any technical experience in the field, she could only hazard that perhaps the wood wasn't treated properly before painting? She is looking into it using the number off the bottom of the toy.
In any case, she wanted to replace the toy right away, and even gave me suggestions on other age-appropriate toys they had available. She shipped the new toy I chose directly to the birthday boy, one that was actually a bit more expensive than this one it's replacing.
I was already a Melissa & Doug fan, and though the experience with this toy was a bit disheartening, I'm still a fan thanks to their friendly and enthusiastic customer service!
