Simple, Effective, Great Coffee Maker

In the product description, Melitta claims to be the originators of the pour-over technique. Whether or not that's the case, what they have in this device is simple and perfect. I've used similar pour-overs, but typically find that multiple holes in the device result in a faster flow of water, resulting in a quicker, but weaker cup of coffee. The Melitta has a single hole dead center, which means all water has the optimum chance to flow through your coffee for a stong, tasty cup. Yes, any pour over requires more than a single pour, but I found this did quite fine with just 2. To make a cup: I place the device over my cup/flask. Place filter into the device. Add 2 heaped tablespoon scoops and level the top so it's flat. Then add freshly boiled water up the edge. Give a gentle stir to ensure the grounds are mixed in and not coagulating round the sides. When that's drained through, my cup is full. If it's the flask, I add a second pour. Total time? Under a minute. Remove the device, add milk and stir.

Another benefit to the Melitta is the see-through gap at the bottom of the device. What this means is, unlike others, you can actually see the rate of drip/pour and how full your cup is getting (so you don't under or overfill). And finally, the bundled flask does the job quite fine, spill free. And to get 2 packs (or units) of the device (separate cardboard package just as in the picture) for under 15 bucks is superb value (give one to a coffee-loving friend). I've dispensed with my single serve coffee maker and now just pour straight into my Melitta and flask and I'm out the door. Love it. Can't wait to travel with it, too. By the way, they include a few #2 filters, which fit the device perfectly. But I have a bunch of #4 filters, which are taller, but work just fine and possibly better, since you can pour right up to the edge of the device, while having an extra lip to contain spillage.

This product does what it is supposed to: allow you to make coffee using the pour over method. This method is all the rage now but Melitta filter holders have been around for a long time. You get two travel mug sets with their corresponding filter holders in this package. The travel mugs are decent quality - insulate fairly well, and have a screw-on top with a sip lid you can open/close.

Some quibbles: I thought I saw somewhere the travel mug sizes were 16 oz. Nope - but will hold 12 oz with some room to spare. In one package, the little foam base of the travel mug was slightly offset causing it to wobble when placed on a flat surface. Not what you want when pouring hot water over grounds into the mug. An easy fix though. Also - the plastic is not labeled BPA free.

Hints for best coffee: Grind beans just before using. Pre-wet filter. Boil water and then let cool for 20-30 seconds. Pour once over grounds wetting them completely. After that filters through, pour remainder slowly over the grounds. Truly does make excellent coffee.

Works as advertised. Good value (you are buying some molded plastic) - *excellent* value when you compare to more trendy setups. Recommend and would buy again. If nothing else, this is a very inexpensive way to see if the pour over method of preparing coffee is for you.

Simple but perfect for the office.

First of all, let me say that after ordering this last night I was stunned to get the cups before lunch today. Twelve hour turnaround from Amazon - unbelievable.

Anyway, I'd been eyeing these for a while for use at my office, because we have a poland spring machine with an instant hot tap. A coworker had also bought all of us coffee gift baskets for the holidays, and I have a Keurig machine at home so not much use for those there. I'd brought in an old French press of mine, but the drip grind is really too fine and I got tired of all the grounds in my coffee, so last night I ordered the Melitta.

I was going to get the single cone thing, but went for the cups package just because it seems like a good deal. I'm really glad I did, too, because my Starbucks mug popped a seal this morning and is leaking, so now I have a new travel mug.

For the cost of a half dozen cups of Starbucks now I can just use all the coffee that we already have, and it seems to brew pretty well. For those of you who like stronger coffee, like I do, it's not exactly rocket science pouring the coffee back through the filter into a second cup, since it does drip through pretty fast. Great little device.

Obviously this isn't going to make the best coffee in the world, but if you're in an office/shop that has ready access to either a microwave or instant hot water, it's definitely an affordable option. It doesn't take up any counter space, and takes less time away from work than dealing with a whole coffee pot.

Very nice product X two. When I ordered this travel drinking cup I didn't notice they came as two. I thought GREAT, if I had a wife (sweat Hog cow) we could enjoy these together. I had thought I could use the HOT water from the KEURIG to add water to the cone but the height of the mug and cone is to high so I needed to boil water on stove. I added hot water from KEURIG from other mug to pour over coffee cone and that worked fine. Using just the Melitta travel mug in the KEURIG works great by using two scoops of what ever brand of coffee you like in the ECO-CUP plastic dohickie instead of the $$$ K-Cups.

Oh yeah, these travel mugs look great and keep my coffee hot for hours and don't leak around the rim.

I love pour over coffee, and when my wife requested a travel mug for Christmas this seemed like a no brainer. Pour over and a travel mug combo. Just one problem. The mug can not be washed in the dishwasher!!! Who really wants to hand wash their travel mug after it has been in the car for a few days with old coffee in it.
I want my much clean!!

Next time make the mug out of better material like aluminum not cheap plastic and make it so that you can wash it. And It would have warranted five stars.
but I get it is true you get what you pay for.
