Unstable! I Miss the Old Design!

I've used the cheap plastic Melita coffee pour-over cones for years and loved them! The cheap things made a great cup of coffee and lasted years! Haven't been able to find the exact same one recently when mine finally cracked all the way through, so I ordered these. Same brand, "new & improved" design, great price... what could be bad about that? Well... I'll tell you.🤦‍♀️ This new design—while it looks kind of cool—qualifies as a natural disaster in my book. The new design is *SUPPOSED* to give you a sort of "window" near the bottom to see how full your coffee mug is without lifting it up to see. But what it *actually* does us make the most UNSTABLE, LOPSIDED, TOP HEAVY pour-over coffee cone in the history of mankind. Hate it. Hate it. Hate. It. One side of the cone is LONGER AND HEAVIER than the other. It's very design "improvement" is the worst thing about it. Making coffee before I've HAD any coffee can be... uhhhh... "challenging" under the best circumstances. The last thing I need while *making* coffee is a lopsided tipsy thing that's that's easily knocked over (or occasionally tips over on its own due to uneven weight distribution once you've added scalding hot water 😑). Oh yeah... and the ridge or "lip" on the bottom side that's meant to fit around the outside opening of your mug securely... it doesn't fit ANY mug I have. (And I have a LOT of coffee mugs! 🤭) It's an odd size & shape. Whomever approved this design change should be drawn and quartered. I've tried all kinds of tricks to keep the damn thing ON top of my mug. It's like babysitting, but for coffee. So for now I'm using my old Melita pour-over cone that's duct taped together (because reasons) until I can find the old model or a suitable, less dangerous replacement. It's not the seller's fault. My order arrived quickly and in great condition.👍 It's MELITA'S fault for "improving" a design that didn't need fixing. At all. Ever. 👎

The prices of coffee pour-overs are pretty surprising to me. This one is the cheapest, it's unbreakable ( a big plus for clumsy me ) and it works great. I only have one or two mugs of coffee in the morning so having a coffee machine made less and less sense to me. I had 2 Keurigs but they both broke after a year ( cheap merchandise ! for big money ) but while they worked I was essentially paying $ 45 - $ 60 a pound for coffee in little plastic cups. It's madness.
I can make a rich cup of coffee in my 15 oz. mug for the price of a tablespoon or so of coffee and a #2 coffee filter.
I'm glad I made the switch to pour over coffee brewing and I'm glad I didn't pay for a heavy crockery pour-over thing at $25 .
Instead I bought 2 Melitas on special for $12. One for me and one for my daughter.

I don't like the new design as this one does not fit many cups like the original design that had another inner ring that can accommodate various size of cup rim sizes. Now I have to use for cup that fits and then transfer to my thermal to take coffee with me. Also I don't like the hole at the bottom. I see why it was designed that way...to see content level but it does make your coffee cold significantly faster. I usually have ok idea of how much water I need so that hole is useless for me.

I love the look and the quality. I also like the fact that it has weight to it. I like my coffee strong and the company boasts that it's a faster brew with two holes instead of one but that also tends to make the coffee just a bit weaker (I think) but you can overcome that by adding more grounds or letting it steep in grounds for a bit and then running it through. I'm planning to order another one to use as an attractive canister to store my #2 filters in.

I bougth years ago and use a two black coffee brewers that are together one coffee cup makers...... the first cup has no top and you put in the coffee grounds for one cup to drink...... then you put the second cup on that has a gold hearty plastic filter in its bottom ----- so you put the coffee in first put top on and pour boiling water and make a delicious cup of coffee..................love em the two i bought and i thought i could get something like that with the ones i bought.... but nooooooooo-- i bought for my daughter and now she is seeking filters.........i am dissappointed.

They are the most hastle free, and most sanitary way of making coffee I have been able to find. I'm very happy with these! The filters are dirt cheap and found at any grocery store or walmart-type store, and for a few dollars you can outfit yourself with enough filters to get you through the next decade! lol These make a very consistent, great tasting cup of coffee! Very happy with this purchase. Highly recommended.

PS-- I've taken note that Starbucks has even taken to using this method to brew their boutique blends that are not brewed in large quantity like their standard blend when ordered in the stores. This should tell you something right there!

A few people really want the handle back. This is silly. It now has, on one side, a wing, that is part of the container. And also acts as a handle but it will never break.
My only other comment is that I wish Melita made a number 5 filter. The poor is too small, and the six is a bit too large. Not a big issue, but I do cut the six down about 1/2 inch. Seems to fit the holder perfectly.

Will be great for RV where we have limited water when boondocking and no electric (and BF is not a fan of instant - ah well, who is?). Just lift out the filter and rinse. The product itself is flawless - sits on cup well, can see the contents of the cup, comes with a couple #2 filters in each to try. Will probably survive the apocalypse.
