at the age of 69. She sounded full of life, had a pretty good range, excellent phrasing, and some superb backing by jazz musicians obviously enthusiastic over her vocals and the material. It just seemed like it was a really happy recording session.

Anita had to be one of the top jazz vocalists of all time and with the sax and flute work of Gordon Brisker plus the piano of Pete Jolly......well, it all seemed to come together for a fine session. All of the cuts are first rate but I especially liked "Anita's Blues" which gives one a pretty good idea of how well she could sing the blues. A swinging jazz album that will enhance anyone's collection.

Anita O'day sings Ellington's In A Mellow Tone in a way that would have made Duke very proud, in fact any jazz lover will enjoy anita's loose and free interpatations of jazz standards. This is a good cd to start out with if you're not familiar with O'day. Very good CD
