I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Hockey star, Dane Forrester has a benefit to attend and is ill. He's missed so many other functions that he knows he'll be in big trouble if he misses this one. He does the only thing he can think to do and that's call his brother Ethan (that look a lot alike) to pretend to be him. It's a masquerade party and he'll be wearing a mask, so no one will know. Ethan agrees and vows that Dane owes him, big time!
Ethan doesn't socialize much since the death of his wife. He does his job and nothing else. So, when Dane asked for his help, he was going to say no. But, he said yes and wow, what a life changing decision that was!
Carly is a sports journalist and has been told she must do an interview with Dane or possibly lose her job. She attends a benefit that she knows he's suppose to be at. She actually meets him and he agrees to an interview! After a few drinks, "Dane" invites her to his penthouse for an interview. However, it's not Dane, it's Ethan. He attempts to tell her who he is, but it doesn't happen. What does fly is sparks between them!! But, she didn't get her interview! Can/will Ethan help her get the interview? Dane hates giving interviews, but he does owe Ethan! Hmm!
I loved this story just as much as book 1! The sparks between those two are amazing! Carly is such a spitfire, that Ethan doesn't stand a chance, no matter how hard he tries.Read more ›
Even though this is a relatively short story, it is filled with so much action that it ‘feels’ much longer when you read it - that’s in a great way, nothing negative. The Alaskan setting is amazing and the author’s knowledge of living and working there shines through, somewhere brought to life in her amazing descriptions of settings, making the reader feel like they’re actually there.
The characters are well developed, with plenty of background information enabling readers to easily relate to them. Sometimes physical trauma leaves even deeper emotional scars and that’s so true for the hero of this story. Ethan Forrester has never forgiven himself for not saving his wife when she was involved in a multiple car crash. He was scarred trying to do so, but the scar on his face is nothing compared to that on his emotional heart. It is only by being hidden behind a mask that he has the courage to start living again and, once the mask is removed, retreats again. This is a superb story of courage, resilience and melting away the ice and masks behind which Ethan hides. Carly is a brilliant, feisty and determined young lady and their interactions are totally engaging, the reader really wants to help get the two together romantically! A sports journalist, Carly is working hard to achieve an interview with Dane Forrester but, through it all, she maintains her integrity and honesty throughout. The series focus is on the Forrester family and, having read ‘Her Alaskan Hero’, it was great to catch up on other members of the family again.Read more ›
As a result, Carly and Ethan meet, and there is an instant chemistry. So much so that they spend the night together. Once Ethan unveils the truth to Carly, he ensures her that he will arrange an interview for her. Ethan convinces himself that he has no desire to see Carly ever again, however, Carly believes otherwise. She makes a pest out of herself until she lands the interview and proves to Ethan that she is the one for him.
This is a nice love story with an interesting plot and well-defined characters. Carly and Ethan are both lonely people, and I liked the way Ms. Thomas brought them out of their respective shells. Carly's constant tenacity got on my nerves, however, she did what she needed to do to win Ethan's love and get her story. Ms. Thomas does a nice job of describing the Alaskan wilderness, so much so that I may want to vacation there someday. This is the second book from the author's Alaskan Hero series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. I read the first book, Her Alaskan Hero, and liked it very much.
