His career ended in disappointment and frustration being temperamentally unsuited to Whitehall and the political machinations of NATO.

I have read a lot of books but Rommel, Patton, Ike, Bradly, and the Russian and German generals too. While Montgomery was a egomaniac, he managed his battles and won them too, except market garden.
This book is pretty skimpy on details but you get a clear view into his mind. He is very pedantic, but also he is very thorough
Unfortunately, I purchased the Kindle edition. Like many others, I am becoming disgusted with Amazon's poor transfers from print to electronic versions. Horrid formatting and spelling errors abound.
I'm rating 4 stars based on the content but if I were to rate the Kindle version it would be a lot lower.
There are many similarities between Monty's philosophy and that of Slim.
I recommend combining Monty's Memoirs with the compilation of Rommel's writing that Liddell-Hart assembled. They complement one another.
I recommend this book highly.
Top reviews from other countries
He is remarkably honest about his interactions with other members of the military organisations that he worked for and alongside, especially Sir Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower.
I found it a very entertaining and informative book, especially towards the end when he looks at NATO and how the European countries interact with each other. It seems that things have changed little in the last fifty years.
The only downside was the price, i do feel that for a kindle edition it was quite expensive.
