The CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner is designed for use in CD and DVD players. It uses a 6 ultra soft brush system to safely remove dust and dirt from the laser lens of the disc player. This will help ensure quality and consistency of laser performances and maximize performance levels. 7 sound optimization tools are included on the disc to optimize the sound quality of your stereo system. Stereo image and channel ID check verifies left and right speaker setup. Polarity check verifies if positive and negative setup of stereo is correct. Sweep test verifies speaker operation. ProLogic imaging and channel ID check verifies optimal surround sound. System balance check adjusts speaker levels to optimum volume. Rattle test determines if vibrations exists. System purity test verifies no unwanted interference in system.

Great cleaner, problem with phase test

It appears that this cleaner fixed my Sony SACD/CD player's problem with certain Hybrid MultiChannel CDs that would skip regularly. Now, they play beautifully! It's a great relief and such a great buy.

I have a problem with though with the phase test, which is on track 6. The test plays two tones and says that if the second one is louder, your speakers were out phase. This appeared to be the case with mine, but they are connected just fine using colored wires, which I've checked over and over again now. For kicks, I tried switching one of the pos/neg connections and the resulting sound was very hollow with left and right channels being very independent. It didn't seem like a good sound field. So, I switched it back to the way I had it before. So, I'm not sure about the speaker phase test.

However, this gem saved me buying a new SACD player (for the time being). Great buy.

better than replacing the DVD ROM drive

I used this on a MacBook Pro, but it's pretty common on all slot-loading drives that they get clogged with dirt and when people take them in to be serviced, the company just replaces the whole drive at a huge cost. I've fixed 4 out of 5 of these "broken" drives by just cleaning them with a DVD lens cleaner like this. This one worked pretty well but I wish it didn't have all the on-screen junk, because it doesn't fully clean the lens without going through the steps, when one of the problems is that your lens can't read the DVD anyway. I wish it had more brushes that spun over the lens for longer. I usually have to use a bit of solvent on the brushes (even though they say you don't need it, you usually do), either lens cleaner, white board cleaner, or good old vinegar. I run it about 6-10 times and it does wonders. Then I use a vacuum to suck out the drive and then run the cleaner again just in case any more dust got on the lens.

Easy, Effective, Cheap

I decided to write this review because another older review helped me. This product can not be seen as a fix-all, but I will describe my experience. After joining Netflix about a year ago occasionally, not often, I would get a "DISC ERROR" on my 2001 model Toshiba, which was top of the line and had always been flawless. I was sent another disc and it worked. A couple of months ago this problem began to increase. I was told that some older DVD players had a problem with some of the newer discs, something about the quantity of information. So a got a new Sony which works fine, problem gone, but I don't like the way the zoom works, the icon never goes away. So I hooked the old DVD player back up thru a VCR in the system as an option. When testing it I found that about half of the older discs I had wouldn't load, "DISC ERROR". Of course I knew I played them all before on this machine. I'm sure you can see where this is leading. I used this product and now I can play all those older discs I have, plus every disc from Netflix so far. It's a cheap easy way to find out if your machine is just dirty, and it's good for 30 uses. Recommended to be used every 50 hours.

I bought these, two of them actually. One as a gift for a friend, and one as a backup for myself. I have always been amazed at the number of people who don't know that cleaning your laser lens will make your old DVD or CD drive work like new in many cases.

I still have a different brand that I am using, but the second one will be my back up when the micro-brushes on this one go bad. I have worn out two other Lens Cleaners over the years, and the third one has been in operation for more than three years so its brushes will probably wear out soon. Tah-Dah I have a replacement waiting in the wings for when that happens.

Good price, rapid delivery, and I hope as good as the name Memorex usually implies.

My VCR / DVD player had been having trouble with some of the DVD's from Netflix. I had to return several as the player said that the disc was too scratched to play. I had thought about buying a new unit but at the last minute decided to give this disc cleaner a try. I had a movie that the player said wasn't playable. I put in the cleaning disc, let it run through it's list of checks, put in the movie and yes, it played. It didn't seem to do too much with the sound checks. Perhaps my set up is fine. The cleaning of my DVD player was well worth the money. The company shipped the disc the next day and l had it right away. Good deal all around.

This product has exceeded my expectations by far. It's a good thing I read reviews before purchasing, because the very nature of the problem it's designed for can cause it to take a couple of tries. The CD player in my Jeep Liberty suddenly stopped working and began giving error messages before ejecting the CD's, so I did a little research and came across this product. Naturally, it did the same thing when it first encountered a Lens Cleaner CD. I had to put it in three times before the lens began to get clean enough to detect the CD. It then ran through a sequence of audio instructions on how to check your sound system, while it was sweeping the lens clean. As soon as it was finished, it told me to press stop and eject, and the cleaning was done. I put in a music CD and it played perfectly. Memorex's Lens Cleaner CD saved me hundreds of dollars which I was about to spend on a new CD stereo for the Jeep.

I have a slot-loading iMac whose DVD drive stopped reading DVDs but was able to read CDs. I figured it was simply the DVD reader lens inside that had gotten dusty or dirty. Before taking my computer in to be repaired, I bought this lens cleaner to see if a few bucks spent on this thing would save the hassle of hauling my computer in. I ran the disc through the drive multiple times, heard it spin and the brushes do their thing, but no luck with my drive. I'm hesitant to leave a really bad review since my problem may have been more severe, but just beware that this product may not do what you're hoping if you're not completely sure that a dirty DVD lens is your problem!

Then they charged me a re-stocking fee, return fee & I had to pay for shipping both ways! NOT very good customer service especially when other companies that sell through Amazon have given me a FULL refund, told me to keep the product & offered me a discount the next time I buy from them through Amazon!
