This book was difficult to relate to for me because of the wishy-washy main characters, especially Micah. I couldn't see how Josh could be so attracted to such a selfish and self righteous and mean person as Micah. At times Josh was to forgiving and acted as if he had no backbone, if he didn't want the type of man he just ended a relationship with he didn't put up to much of a fight when Mr Entitiled came on to him, he simply crumpled.
Dr. Dick wasn't a friend to Alex and I don't think he has the capacity to really love or care for anyone, even at the end...I wasn't drinking the cool-aide! Ms. Stevens tried to tie everything up and make it all happy but for me the damage was done.
You might question if I dislike it so much why did I even give it three stars? Ms. Stevens wrote Micah's character so well (I have to wonder who did she "loosely" base his character on) that he became for me a very three demensional character that I completely detested, I couldn't wait to put this one away and I will pass on future books by this author for now.
Josh understands Micah's predicament because he's been there before. He had reached the top, but not everything that glitters glows, and he walked away from it all, bruised and battered but not broken. He now finds his happiness in the little things and hopes that Micah will learn to as well.
The story is enriched by their two spirited grandmothers, who use the language of love to teach their boys the lessons they never should have forgotten.
I count on Felice Stevens to provide touching stories with happy-ever-after endings. MEMORIES OF THE HEART is engaging, heartfelt and her best story to date.
My OFFICIAL REVIEW written for Carly’s Book Reviews
Micah & Josh have a great love story, with the help of their two grandmothers who are best friends -- Micah & Josh eventually are able to let go of the bad memories and start making new memories that involve both of their hearts!
Great Story by Felice Stevens ~~ so far every book I have read by her is a 5 star read, full of emotion, a great plot, lots of angst and plenty of love!! In this book she brings Micah & Josh together for a lifetime of happiness....and be sure Lucky will be there with them!
Micah Steinberg is a successful doctor up for the job of running the department. He has worked hard to get where he is despite his horrible childhood. The one bright memory for him is his grandmother. She was always glad to see him and was proud of the things he had done. He thought he had done right by her by moving her into the best senior home in New York City. But he rarely visits. He is a gruff man who has built a wall around his heart to keep from getting hurt anymore. He is very talented, but his interpersonal skills are horrible. One letter from his grandmother's best friend begins to turn his whole organized world upside down.
Josh is now a barrista. He left his other life in Boston after catching his boyfriend with someone else. His ex also did not want to move to New York, but Josh had to. His beloved grandmother was living here and he had to be close to her and take care of her. Josh is a good guy, very friendly to all. The first time he meets Micah, he thinks he is an arrogant jerk. But by a strange set of circumstances, he is going to get to know the real man under all the armor.
Sparks and fists fly when Josh and Micah get together. Their chemistry is undeniable, but their pasts may come back to bite them. With the help of Micah's best friend, Alex, Josh just may get a chance to find the beautiful man under all the anger. And when Josh's past collides with Doctor Micah's world, trouble may ensue.
This is a great read and I loved all the layers to the characters. They are not just what you see. There is so much more to who they are. Few books have characters this well developed. This is a wonderful read made even better by the setting of New York City. You feel like you are right there, moving from the city to Brooklyn and back. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who loves a great love story with challenging characters. I cannot wait to read Alex's book. Go grab this one and check it out! You won't be disappointed.
