Memories Of You is a collection of songs as remebered by Bette Midler in more recent years. Most of the selections are standards and classics. From obscure Johnny Mercer songs like Drinking Again from Bette's 2nd LP in 1973 to What Are You Doing New Year's Eve from her last Cool Yule cd from 2006. Most of the selection were some of Bette's best from For The Boys like For All We Know to PS I Love You.
There is also inclusions from her Rosemary Clooney & Peggy Lee Sonbook cd's, including the Barnes & Noble exclusive rare track, He Needs Me. She even included the live One For My Baby track recorded on Johnny Carson's last episode that won her an Emmy Award.
Some of the songs were edited but also sound remastered and better than on their original discs. I wish she included some more rare tracks like Somewhere Along The Way.
This is a great collection for those who want a memorable evening with a loved one and fire place roaring in the background!

Rhino/Atlantic knew well enough not to release this " new " compilation from Bette's old catalog in the US, and aimed it at the UK/European market. Most likely Bette had approval , and it's even thinly disguised with a current photo. Bette Midler does not do a politically correct concert, nor jokes, but why she continues to tone down the recording side of her career flys in the face of all that she's down in that multi-faceted career since 1972. Yet another masking of her recording career, distilling it down to ballads and schmaltz to represent the serious , sensitive side of her. She needs to put out...the live stuff, the unreleased songs, the songs she only did on TV or in concert, The Rose outtakes, the Jinxed Theme, a box set of her career. She may now be in her 60's, but she's never been a bore, nor timid of belting out R&B, rock and bawdy jokes, so why she continues to rewrite her own recording history as an adult easy listening artist only is akin to seeing a Bette concert of her doing only these nostalgic songs, and she's never done that. She needs to do a soul/R&B/rock album, and not all remakes either. You won't fall asleep at a Bette concert, but you will listening to a whole album of this stuff.

My favorite living female vocalist, and so much more than that. She interprets a song like no one else; her personal involvement is deep and emotional. I'd rather listen to her than Streisand or any of the "screamers" American Idol has spawned. She takes you on a journey with each song and you go willingly.

This compilation of ballads and standards from Bette's back catalog is beautuful. These songs are a reflection of when songs were written with such meaning and purpose. Bette has always interpret these songs like they were her own. Stand out tracks: "Come Rain or Come Shine", "He was To Good For Me", "Folks Who Live On The Hill" "Drinking Again" and most notable "Is That All There Is?" Sit back, relax, drink wine and allow yourself to go back in time when music was simple and beautiful.

Once again, Bette wows us! I consider her to be an incredible multi-talented artist. Her recordings sometimes bring tears to my eyes. If you love Bette Midler and the girl groups of the boomers, get this CD.

I never thought I'd write a Bette Midler review on Amazon or purchase one of her albums. However, after recently hearing "Is That All There Is" on the radio, I had to do it. It's difficult to get the song and Midler's rendition out of my head. Furthermore, that's not all there is that rewards on this excellent cd.

This is a previously released song compilation heavy on songs recorded for the film "For the Boys". A standout for me is the classic "Drinking Again", a Bette staple. The CD is a pleasant experience for the American Standard Songbook enthusiast.

I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about this album. I knew it was a "greatest hits" from the beginning. I never saw/read anything promoting it as an album of new material. Is it a new album? Well yes, but not of new material. It's a beautiful compilation of songs from the great american songbook that have appeared on a number of Bette's albums throughout her amazing career. All of these songs are available on her previous albums as any fan would know. Songs from her For The Boys soundtrack album make the most appearances, along with selections from her Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney Songbooks. One selection each from her spectacular holiday album Cool Yule, the 2 million selling hit Some People's Lives, and her second album the Gold certified Bette Midler. Also completing the collection is One For My Baby And One More For The Road, which is the number she famously sang to Johnny Carson on his final show and which also won her an Emmy. I would also like to say good for her for releasing a little something for her UK fans (thus the reason for the high price for us in the U.S., it's an import).
