PC specs:
2 xeons 2695 v3
3 MSI gtx 980 Ti
Samsung m.2 sm 951 500gb
Intel 750 series 1.2TB
128GB RAM
Caselabs case

Its a great motherboard and you will not regret getting it. However. . . m.2 holding screw is too short and cannot be used to hold Samsung sm 951. It will still work but it will just sit there unfastened. . .

The location of m.2 drive is also questionable, if you will be running 2-3 cards in SLI it will sit right underneath them slowly grabbing heat of the cards and thus will throttle if you do any serious compute work on your cards for a long time. Gaming doesn't seem to do much of that due to only 1st card mostly doing all the work but if you do GPU rendering m.2 SSD will heat up quite a bit.

Also if you use video cards with a backplate (I have 3 MSI gtx 980 Tis 6g) after some time of heavy load might be due to heat or very close proximity to each other fans starting to hit the backplate of the adjacent card.

Now the good.

You can boot off an m.2 slot on this board. Both Samsung ms 951 and Intel 750 series work at their rated speeds (Intel 750 reads seem to be 200-300MB/s faster than rated) and that's with 3 video cards installed as well.

Post times are pretty long which is kind of expected.

All in all its a good board but I was expecting me from a workstation top of the line board. . .

I purchased this mobo from a different vendor a couple weeks ago (was out of stock at the time here), I couldn't be more happy with it. I have two Broadwell Xeon E5-2698 V4 CPU's (40 cores!). The reviewers here saying mobo doesn't support V4 must not know how to download the bios load to USB drive and follow instructions to flash bios, it could not have been easier. I've got 4 980TI's SLI enabled on it now as well. I did have to enable extra memory channel in bios to get all 4 GPU to work (I think it was called G4?). I also ordered a low form factor plugin for the front of case USB plugins since the 4th GPU covers it up, NBD.
Before this board, I tried SuperMicro and I couldn't get it to work, had to return it, their Z10 had a weird form factor as well.
Asus makes great mobo's.

Want a great gaming rig?
Want a great single host virtualization platform for a home lab?
Want a board that can support 4 large graphics cards for hash cracking?
Want crazy storage possibilities and 80 PCIe lanes?

Take the term Jack of All Trades and up it to King of All Trades. It's not going to be a complete Ace at any one of the above, but it will get you 90% there in all categories.

The limiting factors that keep that extra 10%:

Remember, this board leans towards Xeons rather than Core i7s. You can purchase QPI enabled Xeons with stock speeds that are more than good enough for great gaming; but they won't be able to overclock at the same rate as the ROG's Core i7 processors. (But you do get bonus to the core count for multitasking and massive Chrome tab counts without it even breaking a sweat.)

And you probably won't get this board to be able to POST while fully populated with the latest DDR4 gaming RAM. You're much more likely to get it started with ECC RAM that sacrifices a bit of speed for higher stability. (Still, you're trading a fraction of speed for stability and probably a larger amount of RAM, i.e. 132 GB on a single host) Definitely recommend only buying RAM that's on this board's certified compatible list.

The manufacturer commented on the review below
With one, it'll boot. with two, it will not boot. Dual V3 CPUs work fine.

if you are building a single cpu system, with plans to add a second one later, be forwarned...it won't work without rev hardware or BIOS update.

If you look at Asus website (UK) they state the V4 CPUs are supported as of BIOS 3204, however, a number of people have found this not to be true (or perhaps the support was for single CPU, not dual)

A google search for 'Asus z10pe-d8 ws won't power up with retail Intel v4 CPUs' will pull up some details on toms hardware.

Dear Valued ASUS Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to write this informative review. We appreciate your feedback on this matter and I will be letting the related department know about the issues you are experiencing for continuous improvements to the product line. Please wait patiently for a new BIOS release in the near future in which corrects the firmware making it compatible for dual Broadwell-E CPU support. If you need a help with any technical questions or general inquiries you can reach me at cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
-Nestor

Says it supports Xeon E5 v4's, but it doesn't support TWO of them at once. If a BIOS update doesnt come out soon to fix the problem I'll be returning these boards and encouraging my companies to stop buying Asus as this is blatant misleading/false advertising.
