If you're looking for value, the MC9900 has the kind of specifications found on machines costing twice as much and with three-times the learning curve. Here, everything is so easy to use, because the technology is designed to make it fun. The MC9900 has embroidery stitch quality that few top-of-the line machines can match. With a newly designed stitch mechanism and powerful onscreen editing, it's easy to get beautiful results. The high resolution touch screen can display more than 65 thousand colors. You get a true sense of the richness of your designs. And behind it all is a new high speed processor, making everything go faster. The MC99000 can store and stitch out designs with up to 200,000 stitches. No competing model comes close. And you can embroider those complex designs at up to 800 stitches per minute. Get onscreen help and the right setting for your project. The Sewing Applications section has 12 categories for the techniques you use most. It's just one of dozens of features on the MC9900 that make sewing easier. The extra width makes all your decorative stitches bolder and more distinct. Most of the 200 built-in stitches take full advantage of the 9mm width. Your machine comes with eleven presser feet designed for a 9mm stitch width. And though the embroidery unit is very easy to attach and detach, you can leave it on when doing regular sewing. In fact, you might prefer the extra support it gives your fabric at the back. Most competing machines require you to remove their embroidery unit for regular sewing. The MC9900 comes standard with two embroidery popular hoop sizes 6.7" x 7.9" (170mm x 200mm) and 5.5" x 5.5" (170mm x 170mm) with magnetic clips. It is also compatible with the optional Free Arm Embroidery Hoop FA10a 1.6" x 4" (40mm x 100mm).

I've also complained for three years about the tension. It's not always the best, but again, I'm must be doing something wrong. And, the tension isn't consistent. It starts off horribly. Then, it might correct itself for a while.
I wasn't having a problem with the quality of my embroidery until it came home from the shop, for the sensor replacement. The thread loops. There is no bobbin thread showing on the bottom. I'm using the correct bobbin case. And, I'm changing the needle plate. AND, I'm setting the pressure foot setting to #3. It's horrible. And, I paid more for this machine, than it costs now, because I bought it when it came out about 3 years ago.
I'm not taking it back to the dealer where I bought the machine. I'm going to try one other place. And, then this thing will become a doorstop. I've never been so frustrated in my life. I've already got more than $4000 tied up in this boat anchor. Meanwhile, my other machines continue to hum along perfectly. They get yearly maintenance, and one of my Brother machines has close to 10,000,000 stitches....never a problem.
Also, something to consider. Janome has horrible customer support. You cannot contact them. They just advise you to see your dealer!!! Baby Lock customer support is supreme!
