Masterson's chapters are simple and self-contained, demand no commitments from readers, and have an immediate payoff. Men Are Better Than Women is a dangerous work of satire -- not dangerous in a revolutionary sense, but dangerous in that it walks the razor-thin line between cruelty and absurdity. That line is called hilarious.

All that being said, this book was a bit of a bust for me.
Maybe Dick has sharpened and refined his comedy style in the 10 years since this book was published or maybe as a fast reader the timing aspect of the comedy didn't quite hit. But all things being equal, the gag of the unaware misogynist, the satire of that a few fringe people think this way, was lost on me. Punchlines and jokes seemed to repeat themselves, page after page. I often felt like I was reading the same joke again and again. Isn't it funny that some men think women can't be doctors/lawyers/accountants/engineers/etc? Aren't I a schmuck for saying something like women are just fragile emotional babies? Isn't it hilarious that some men actually think women stop developing intellectually at 5? Didn't I just say 5 hypocritical/contradictory things in a row?
Well yes Dick, it is funny. But, where is the punchline in all this really?
The gag of a character tends to only works when you follow up that absurdity somehow. Dick seemed to follow up most of his gags by doubling down on the persona, often finishing chuckle worthy sentiments with 'and I thought that up because I'm a man and we're better than women' or 'I'm so smart, so that's how I know this is true'.
The gag worked for the first few pages. Dick is a funny guy and his podcast is A+ material. But his pride in this book 10 years later seems lost on me. Other people seemed to have found the book funnier than I did, and kudos to them for getting as much Dick in their eyes as they could. I on the other hand found myself bored by page 100. If you simply can't get enough Dick, I recommend it. On the other hand, the joke wore thin on me by the end of the book.
I would recommend this even though the 3 star reviews that people give aren't really inaccurate or misleading. I can guarantee you won't like 100 percent of the content, but it's unreasonable to say that you shouldn't give it a try. You might end up liking it a lot. I feel like it's really 3-4 stars because there was so much room for improvement or removing the extremely dumb parts that really give away that it's a complete joke.
The book isn't bad, despite the 3 star rating, as a 5 star fast food restaurant doesn't serve 5 star restaurant food, it's just a really good fast food restaurant with fast food. It's a higher tier of book, not one of the lower tier books that are "kinda good."
Do not read to your girlfriend thinking she'll get the joke. She won't.
In spite of this, there is an enormous amount of truth found in this book. You have to be very patient, because the ranting gets old, as does the swearing, but in the final analysis, what Masterson is saying about women is right on the money. This is no "Predatory Female", and certainly no "Sex-ploytation", but I think it's important for men to read anyway. You just have to prepare yourself; it's not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for the well-mannered. It's offensive, crude, rude, uncultured, and irritating. But, his comments about women are basically accurate.
I expect to see more and more books like this as the male backlash against women and feminism grows more angry every year. So, I grudgingly give it five stars for the subject matter, and because I think it reflects just how angry men are becoming with women these days.

But it is well written and very witty in most parts if a bit rude and crude.(Probably not for the faint hearted or easily offended). The sort of book that you just dip in and out of when you just want a bit of a laugh. It doesn't take any sort of serious commitment and it is definitely not to be taken at all seriously. And like most decent satire it does have an element of truth.Sorry ladies.
People... it's satire... not a dick. Don't take it so hard
