If you have a thing about men with tattoos, pick up this series, settle down in your favorite reading location and be prepared to sit with your kindle (or favorite ereader) and spend a couple days just devouring this entire series - all five books, not just the three in this bundle because trust me, you will not be able to stop until you know what happens with all four brothers and Izzy.
I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this one up. The first book was good enough that I knew I wanted to read the second. I liked the first book but the second practically blew me away. City and Suzy's story was fun, even if it was a little predictable, Chelle's writing will pull you in and you'll feel like you are there with them the entire time. You get to know everyone, except Thomas, in the first book well enough that you'll feel invested. For the record, as much as I love the brothers, Izzy became my favorite almost immediately because I could totally relate (big brothers...love 'em and hate 'em).
Michael and Mia's story was romantic and sweet (at least until Tammy showed her ugly face). The complexity of all the characters really came through in book two. This one was less predictable but I have to tell you, I really want someone to make a wedding scrapbook for Michael and Tammy so I can see it.
Izzy and James's story was definitely my favorite of the three. I loved getting to know Thomas, finally, through James and through his interaction with Izzy early on. I don't want to give any spoilers, but trust me, you will love these two and the family's reaction to James when he comes to dinner.
My only complaint, which isn't even fair, is that the stories ended. ;)
Mike and Mia
Mike is the fighter and Mia is a doctor. Mike is so tough but when he meets Mia he just has to have her, so he takes his time with her and teases her and makes her want him. But in the background this crazy girl Tammy is telling people that he is engaged to her and she's having his baby. He's hoping that Mia don't hear about this before he gets it taken care of because he really likes her. He has never liked anyone like he likes Mia. He just wants to see her happy and wants to be with her. Then Joey (City) gets into an accident the whole family meets Mia but their not sure what's going on with them. They just know she's one of City's doctors. Mike tries to sneak down to see Mia and after they have fun in the supply closet, they run into Tammy and before Mike can explain how crazy she is Tammy is telling Mia that she's having his baby and she's engaged to Mike. Mia won't even let mike explain. He has to find away to prove that Tammy is crazy and not telling the truth and fast. So he has his family to help him. First he has to prove she's not pregnant then he has to get the scrapbook and show Mia that she made it with fake pictures. Then he is getting a protection order.Read more ›
The writing got somewhat better and so did the stories.
The biggest problem I had was all the passive writing. I didn't count but I wouldn't be surprised to discover that Ms. Bliss used the word "as" more than 100 times in these books. And each time was because she'd written a passive sentence.
Stories should move you, make you sweat with the action, make you jittery and painting. With passive sentences it's as if your going to reach the climax, but then it just falls away. It's as bad as being TOLD a story instead of being SHOWED a story.
I hope that Ms. Bliss has lost some of the passivity over time. I actually want to read the next books in the series because I've come to care about these characters. That's saying something.
So I'm going to try the next book and see had James, Izzy, and Thomas make out.
