This was a interesting book about love that grew apart but never left. Years later with both feeling raw and like they were wronged opportunity comes for both of them to get revenge although Libby’s was really alot worse that Alex’s. At least when Alex was confronted he didn’t deny it when Libby was she was outraged and secretly she had been and continued to try to take him down.
The tension between them was crackling. You could feel that they wanted each other but were to stuck in the past and stuck with wanting to cause pain to care. That is until they got to spend time with each other.
Alex started out as arrogant and full of himself. Workaholic as well. He was a family guy though. There for his sister and family from his teens on through. Even when his mom goes and tries to set him up he still indulges her sometimes. He helped support Alice with her business. He was a nice guy deep down but Libby in the past destroyed him. He was shattered and only Libby could heal him.
Libby acted frustrated and better than Alex when in reality she was no different. She was hollow inside as well. Only Alex could fuel her fire and get her seeing things differently. When night changes things for them unknowingly.
While they are denying their feelings and plotting against each other, Alex is fighting for his business as well.
This book is about two people trying to get revenge and finding each other again. About allowing love to heal them and begin again.
Beth's writing is so full of life, and it just gets better and better. Her characters jump off the page. They make me laugh and make me sniffle. They make me hot.
This is a phenomenal second-chance romance! Loved it!!!
They each have differing views of what led to their divorce and secrets were kept and lies told. But the CEO of AL Investments is not entirely the man he was at age 23.
He may be arrogant, confident and self-assured but buried beneath his glares, sharp suits and strong words is a damaged man who longs for his soul mate.
Through the eyes of Alex we explore the tale of their reunion, the true extent of their lies and the depth of their love for one another still there underneath the harsh words and hurtful names.
Having a story entirely told from the male POV was like a breath of fresh air. As readers we cry out for the male perspective more and more these days but for this standalone to come in the mind of Alex it was real, it was true and it was an insight we wouldn't have had any grasp of if told from Libby's side.
Our protagonist goes through many emotional changes throughout the story and yet tries to remain the controller in every situation. He makes mistakes proving he is human but ultimately he is still that young man in love with a girl. A girl who had her own troubles to deal with over the 7 years since the breakdown of their marriage.
Beth has written something fresh, new and different to what is mainly on the market currently. Ultimately it is a love story but reading between the lines, it is something original and unique. I adore her style of writing - one not afraid to include any Britishisms and typical phrases - and found myself chuckling away at parts.
For seven years nothing has been right in either Alex or Libby's worlds except for maybe their careers. The people closest to them have had enough and set into motion a crazy plan to commit the ultimate revenge. Destroy what they seem to value most - their financial security and reputations.
Except the jokes everyone because you really can't deny the love and affection between soulmates. No matter how angry they are at another. Passion erupts and is undeniable with these two. You'll love it.
I thought this book was witty, entertaining, and incredibly sexy. The characters were charming and the plot was filled with all kinds of back-stabbing and dramatic moments. I really enjoyed Mendacious and I recommended you check it out
