Editorial Reviews

MENG is the first solo CD featuring Meng Su, 1st prize winner of the Parkening International Guitar Competition, one of the leading guitar competitions in the world today. The CD opens with the beautiful and moving work Avner s Theme composed by famed film composer John Williams for the feature film Munich. Other works are Castelnuovo-Tedesco s Sonata Omaggio a Boccherini Op. 77 ; the 4th Lute Suite by Bach; two pieces by Tárrega: Gran Vals, which was most famously used by the cellphone company Nokia as their telephone ringtone, and Rosita ; as well as the Five Bagatelles by English composer William Walton. The CD ends Rounds, another work for solo guitar by John Williams. Meng Su, who is captivating audiences around the world with her stunning virtuosity and refined artistry, began studying the guitar at the age of five in China. She came to the United States at the age of seventeen to study at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University with the renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco, who is the executive producer of this recording.
