From the manufacturer
Mepra was created in 1947, but the entrepreneurial story of the Prandelli family starts many years earlier. In 1901, brothers Bortolo, Francesco and Giovanbattista create the first family business, Prandelli, in the Lumezzane Valley by the banks of River Gobbia to make use of its water’s kinetic energy that would allow machinery to operate.
The company’s factory used to manufacture for others and, during the First World War, produced bullets for the Italian Army. With the end of the war, the factory had to be converted to other uses, and Gianbattista’s three sons Pietro, Felice and Giacomo created Mepra, acronym for Metallurgica Prandelli.
In 1950, the brothers decided to commit half of the production to stainless steel flatware. It was a huge success. The following years brought on steady growth and successes, leading Mepra to widen the product range throughout the years, with crockery first, followed by cookware and the first coffee makers and finally silver-plated stainless steel products.
Today, Mepra is a company with a worldwide presence, exporting its products and designs to each country in the world. Mepra continuously innovates its processes and products. Product innovation means being able to present the markets with one new collection a year.
At Mepra, we bring you three generations of Italian tradition, design and lifestyle. Made in Italy.

Top Customer Reviews
Fantasia is a playful series of bright colors anchored by basic black. So you can mix them up for a festive table setting on a white tablecloth or on any surface.
The salad fork is classic in dimension, delicate and a pleasure to hold. Rarely do you see thoughtful differentiation between the salad fork and the dinner fork in flatware. The dinner fork has the requisite heft and the thicker, not just longer, tines that you want hunting down chunks of entree. Brava!
The spoon is unlike any I have seen and held. It is not deeply bowled, holding exactly the standard for a stop spoon. But it glides to the palate. The design is not quite a traditional soup spoon: it is biased toward a cream soup spoon, which you nearly never see in flatware. So you get just enough of the standard elongation to deal with chunky dishes, with a nice nod to a pure broth or cream soup.
The small spoon is no teaspoon. It is, by volume, 25% smaller. Yes you can easily stir your cup of tea or coffee, but never a big mug, which is what I am. This is a spoon to love ice cream, custard and mousse.
Finally the knife. It is of the luncheon size, rather than the full bore dinner knife. This may be the piece where you most appreciate the touch of the handle as opposes to all bare metal. This must be a matter of sensibility as another fine reviewer does not feel that the handles marry well. So be aware of that. For me it is a nicety because it improves my grip. I never liked the constant thins of the grip. There are sound in hand. Though shorter, this knife has well made serrations, closely spaces, that did a job on fibrous vegetable or sinuous meat.
These are expensive. No way around it. I can say the 18/10 steel from Mepra is second to none. I can say that the durability of the stainless steel Mepra uses is tops. I was a little suspicious of the handles. As much as I like the spray of color and how much these handles add to the feel in the hand, I had to try something.
I held the knife, which is the longest, and whacked it against a stone edge six times. Nothing. Not a mark. Then I decided to go to my tool box and get a hammer. Six more blows to the handle. Not a mark. No loosening. Thank you for your patience.
The spoon handle has a nice dip, which is shown in the attached photo. It fits my hand very comfortably, but I'm not sure if would be as comfortable for someone with very large hands. The knife blade is strong and has strong grooves to cut well. The coffee spoon is shorter than a teaspoon that we are used to receiving in flatware sets.
Coffee spoon: 5 1/4 inches long
Table spoon: 6 3/4 inches long
Knife: 8 3/4 inches long
Dinner fork: 7 3/4 inches long
Salad fork: 7 inches long
Handles average 1/2 inch wide and 1/2 inch thick. Coffee spoon handle is 3/8 inch wide and thick.
Overall, this is a beautiful set of flatware. I love the matte black finish of the nylon bars against the highly polished stainless steel. It's sleek and impressive!
The show stopper in this set is really the coffee spoon. It is not the smallest coffee spoon I have seen, but it is surprisingly small, when considering the proportions of the set. The other utensils are generously sized and then you have the diminutive coffee spoon. It is absolutely adorable and perfect for adding a smidge of sugar and stirring away.
This is a very progressive set of flatware and if your fingers are not going to be distracted by distinct seams along your utensils, you are likely to love them! For now, I am claimed the coffee spoon for my special little coffee cup.
The coffee spoon or it could be called a sugar spoon, is smaller than a regular teaspoon and I don't know how much. It's also a little
shorter than my regular soup spoons. But that's ok as the soup can double as a teaspoon cause I don't think it's as deep as my regular soup spoon. And, as I stated above, you'll want to enjoy it yourself or show it off to company.
I had not heard of Mepra company before I ordered these but I shall certainly shout their praises from now on if this is an example of their products. I did a little research on them, though, and found out they have been around since 1947 bringing us three generations of Italian
tradition, design and lifestyle. That's a long time and this set is not pricey compared to some sold in Italy.
