I loved what Landon has brought to the table in this story and she has wonderfully set up a series of stories involving the diverse set of characters in this book.
If you love science fiction, romance and action/adventure, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.
The Mercenary contained BOTH of my prerequisites. I very much enjoyed the read. Of course, there's the MC: Saakshi. She's a very innocent and naïve person most of the time. She's placed in prison and is serving out her time waitressing at a bar. Along comes Zoran, who has had his sights on her for sometime. I know this is sci-fi, and it's great, but Zoran.IS.HOT. What's not to like? A protector, someone that looks out for your best interest, has a soft heart and is ethical. And he looks like, well what he is: a mercenary. He's built and tatted. **purrrrr** (I just re-read what I wrote. It's kind of a paradox: Zoran's a mercenary, but is ethical. This is very true. I don't know if he didn't unsavory things in his past, but it seems as though he thinks things through. So, I'm gonna keep on loving him.)
Things heat up between the two characters. Zoran states his interest, but naïve Saakshi doesn't get it. He keeps working at it until, FINALLY!, she realizes she's in love with him and that he already loves her. I love the cat and mouse play, I really do.
As their story unravels, we travel with them through their ups and downs. We see Saakshi learning more about herself and Zoran, and finally growing as a person. I think for most people, it's difficult to find their place in the world and it takes time. We get to see her find her place.
I really enjoyed the descriptive aspect of the book. Sci-fi can sometimes be difficult to picture and imagine, but this is written very descriptively. It made it very easy to conceptualize everything. I almost thought at times it was too descriptive, but that's completely subjective.
What blew me away about this book is how intricate and well thought out it is. I mean, there are so many aspects to the novel that I wouldn't have thought about. It was a really superb read and I'm looking forward to reading more from Petra Landon.
This is definitely a book I will recommend to everyone. It was refreshing. The writing was flawless. The characters very likable. Everything about this book will draw you in. I don't want to leave this world and I'm excited for the next book to come out!
