I got this to cut through paninis where a sawing motion will wreck the sandwich. I have a long bread knife that did pretty well except I hit my knuckles. I wanted a shorter knife and ordered this only to find it was just as long (my fault! The size is stated clearly and is accurate), I decided to try this any way and it does a great job. I am able to cut through the crusty panini with a minimal amount of sawing and once I'm through the crust I can cut straight down without making a mess of the sandwich an no knuckles on the counter. I have used it to cut other things like cutting a whole melon in half (good thing it's long for that). It is easy to clean and feels like it will hold up well. I have a few 'fancy' knives wit this is my third one with the plastic commercial kitchen type handle. The oldest I have is over 15 years old and is still one of my most used knives. They don't look impressive in a knife block on the counter (ESP the white handles) but they get the job done. I suspect a real chef or knife connoisseur could tell you why youneedto spend >$100 on a knife but for the general amateur cooking I do this is a great knife!

Fantastic quality for the price. I prefer to use my chef's knife for pretty much everything in the kitchen except for cutting bread. You need a good price point for such a niche piece of equipment, and this knife accomplishes exactly that. Also, since serrated knives are more trouble to sharpen than they're worth, it's nice to know that the price on this unit is such that once it gets dull, I can feel comfortable with buying another one.

I got my first Mercer knife a few months ago and liked it so much I put Mercer knives on my Christmas wish list. I was really pleased when Santa came through with two new Mercer knives. I love the 11 inch slicer. I wanted a knife that was long enough to easily cut an angel food cake in half horizontally without tearing it to pieces. I also use this knife to slice bagels, loaves of French bread and other baked goods. The blade is sharp and the handle fits very comfortably in my hand. I wear a size Small glove so my hands are not very big. My husband wears a size Large glove and he also likes the comfortable feel of the handle. I was worried that this knife would be too long to fit into my knife block, but it fits just fine. This knife is a keeper for sure.
The other knife I received is the 3.5 in paring knife. The blade on this knife is really sharp and it is a straight handle so easy to use for quickly cutting up vegies and fruit. The handle is not my favorite as it is very light weight and a bit slippery. Still a good knife for the money.

This knife is GREAT! I didn't realize how terrible my bread knife was until I use this one. It seriously slices through bread like it's butter. The handle is very comfortable and has a great grip for easy handling. I 100% recommend this knife.

Knife is perfect for cutting large amounts of bread. I've been using at work and still has a great blade after cutting many loaves of bread. The handle is easy to grip and has been used by both left handed and right handed people.

I submit to being a former Henckel knife snob. I've owned many of them over the years... well no longer. I've tested a number of Mercer knives over the past couple of months and can honestly say they are a great value for a great price. Sharp, functional, dishwasher safe, ergo friendly...and the price, I mean you just can't find a better knife for such a great price! The few times my very expensive knives made it into the dishwasher dulled the handles and minimized the sharpness. Even if this Mercer dulls over time, I could buy at least 7 of them for the price of the same, expensive brand name knife. I'm slowly becoming a convert to a mixed arsenal of knives in the kitchen and Mercer will remain a constant steady in the mix.

One of the best chef's knives that I have purchased. Extremely sharp; so be careful when opening and using. Mercer knives are a great product and I would highly recommend them for either home or professional use.
