5 out of 5 stars
The story Mercy and Mayhem: Men of Mercy by Lindsay Cross is a military romance book. This is the love story of Mack Grey and Marley Mitchell as well as a tale of survival. It was supposed to be an in and out mission for Marley. She was to take a special team across Africa, drop them off, and then she would be back home with her little girl. Then the mission goes wrong and Marley finds herself in the jungle with Mack Grey and his team. With things going wrong very fast will any of them survive? Mack Grey is on a mission of revenge. A traitor must be found and stopped. Now Mack finds himself in the jungle with a woman that he can’t get out of his head. Will Mack and his team be able to complete their original mission or will a secret that Marley is keeping be their downfall?
This is a story that will have you turning pages to find out what happens next. It is action packed and I found myself holding my breath in parts. Not only is the story awesome so are the characters. Mack and Marley are made for each other, they just don’t know it yet. Mack is a man that is out for revenge. A traitor infiltrated his team and he must pay. Mack is also a man that has had tragedy in his personal life. He has lost the ones that he loved the most and will not press forward in any relationship. This all changes when he meets Marley. She stirs up emotions that he thought he would never feel again and while deep in the jungle gains his complete trust. Then a secret is revealed. Will this mean the end of any chance that this couple has? Will they both walk away brokenhearted?
Marley is a single mother who is raising her daughter with the help of her parents. She is an Air Force pilot and loves her job. Then she meets Mack Grey. He awakens emotions inside her that she didn’t believe she would feel again. After her mission to fly Mack’s team ends with the plane going down she is put in a situation that she never thought she would encounter. Marley is a wonderful mother and always makes sure to keep in touch with her daughter. Even though she has been through training, when she finds herself in the middle of the jungle she has to quickly adapt. She finds herself falling for Mack. Then she finds she must make a choice. The choice she has involves real lives and real danger. What will Marley’s choice be and how will this affect both the mission and her newfound relationship with Mack?
I like that this story gives a little background on each of Mack’s teammates and the reason for their current mission. There are some conflicts that come up dealing with trust. This team works well together which is important to both their mission and their survival when things go wrong. This is the second book I have read by the author and love both her writing style and the characters she creates. I look forward to reading any books she has previously written and any going forward. This book does include scenes of violence, adult language, and adult situations. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
Mack leads a Special Operations team and they are on a mission of revenge, on the hunt for a former CIA agent that betrayed them. Jack is power hungry and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
Marley is an Air Force pilot and has been assigned to Mack's team across Africa and then she will be going home to see her 9 year old daughter, who lives with Marley's parents as Marley is a widow and a single mom.
As they fly, Marley's co-pilot asks her some rather odd questions and then they start to lose pressure in the plane. As he gets ready to jump from the plane, he apologizes to Marley...because he is leaving a bomb behind.
A member of Mack's team inspects the bomb and tells all it cannot be dismantled because it is a pressure bomb and will explode if touched or moved. They have to jump from the plane, and so their story begins.
Will Marley and the team make it out of the jungle alive? Will Jack kill them, local militants, the wildlife or just the heat and lack of food as they must walk to safety?
Mack and Marley are attracted to one another. Mack is the first man who has made her look twice since her husband died 6 years ago. Mack tries to hide his attraction to her by being surly and short with her but there comes a time they give in...
Mack has his own guilt over his previous marriage so he has had no real interest in a relationship but Marley is different...
I loved this book! Ms. Cross must dedicate a lot of time to research because she is so thorough in the descriptions. I know nothing of what the jungles of Africa are like but I did get a clear picture as Ms. Cross described it. During parts of the book I would find myself saying "I wouldn't make it a mile with the climate" or "I'd die if I saw one of those huge snakes!" LOL. Luckily, I didn't have to deal with any of it from the comfort of my chair.
I have read several of Ms. Cross' books and the attention to detail and research has always come through.
Mack and Marley start thinking "it's a one-time thing" but will this hold true? Mack has his reasons for not wanting a relationship and Marley has a young daughter she must raise.
There is an interesting twist in the story...now Marley has a secret and must make a decision. She must also deal with Mack's team as they do not trust her. Did Jack buy her too in his attempt to kill the team?
Once I started reading, the story just drew me right in. There are some interesting characters such as the men in Mack's team and I loved her parents also. I'd love to see a book about Riser...he caught my attention.
This is definitely a good read!
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. Once again Team Scorpion is out to eliminate Mr. J. Will they be able to stop him and retrieve Caroline? There are plenty of twists and turns in this storyline to keep you reading. As usual, things are not what as what they appeared or as was expected.
I really enjoyed this novella even though it ended with a cliffhanger, so I have to wait to see how it is resolved. I'm looking forward to reading more of these books! I'm hooked on this series.
