Anyway moving on Jane makes it to London and meets the rest of Henrietta's family her two daughters Sophie and Charlotte were ecstatic at having Jane come and stay with them for the season. They were looking to her as if she was their long lost sister. Their brother on the other hand Peter Hardwicke the Duke of Somerton wasn't happy to see her at all he was very put out and standoffish. He even thought Mr. Cuddlesworth was a monster coming to mane is baby daughter Sarah. Peter looked at Jane like she was beneath him, a little long in the tooth, a bit plump and bonus looks like a servant in her out of date cloths. I suppose it didn't dawn on him that she is a vicar's daughter who helps her family with gardening, cooking, cleaning, sewing dresses and a reader to an elderly woman and probably doesn't need fancy dresses to do those things. Peter does do a of couple of nice things for Jane like buy her some dresses and puts up a small dowry so that she can find a match but its later revealed that if he did those things so she could find a husband and become someone else's problem. In the beginning he avoids her and in the event he sees her he is very mean. There was one incident I would have liked to reach into the book and smack Peter on the head. The children Josh and Sarah were out playing with Jane. Peter hears Sarah scream and come running like Jane would hurt his children. Anyway he comes upon the children and Jane rolling around on the ground having a tickle session. Peter asked Sarah if she was okay and Sarah said she was. Well Sarah happened to take a tumble before the tickle session and Jane said that she looked her over and she didn't have any broken bones or bruising and wasn't complaining of being hurt.. Peter gets mad and takes Sarah and storms off saying things like your not a doctor and demanding one be sent for and blaming Jane.
The author skips way ahead and finally Jane is at her first ball. Not sure what she was dressed in but it had to be something special if Peter has his mouth hanging open and drooling everywhere. He suddenly takes a liking to her because she no longer resembles the young lady he met she is now a swan. Peter works hard for the rest of the book to win her heart. He happens to be in line with all the other men who wish to be her beau.
Lord Rotheby didn't have much to do with story and was only mentioned near the end of the story, I enjoyed it immensely.
I also read the other two books in this series and enjoyed them. I will be reading more of Catherine Gayles book from now on as I havve become a fan.

This is not the Catherine Gayle I usually read. I got hooked on her hockey romances.
This book is not so different.Read more
