Note: on day 8 of Advent. The only problem we have had is that the first door holds the stable that is to be assembled--I honestly thought the container for the calendar might be the stable but it is smaller than that. It fits together in 4 pieces and I must say that to get them together takes a bit of help. The slots for the roof could be cut deeper, making the stable more secure. I finally on day 7 actually used a small amount of tape on the back of the stable so that it would not come apart and plan to cut the tape at end of Advent. The other figures are sturdy and stand alone.
The pros are: made of wood (won't break), kids can touch and handle this (my kids always want to touch my breakable nativity set, and this is a perfect set for small hands.)
The con: some pieces won't stand up because the bottom isn't flat. They were kinda cut on an angle. But I believe this is an EASY fix. If you have a hot glue gun and small cardboard pieces, you can fiddle around with the pieces that won't stand. In our set, we had a couple "people" figures that wouldn't stand up.
Our stable had to be hot glued in little areas, otherwise it'll completly topple and flatten. (Hot glue can be easily picked off when you're ready to store your set.)
Overall, it's super cute. We saved our cardboard box pieces (days and pieces 1-24 are in 4 flat white cardboard boxes that fit into the main box upon arrival.)
Each flat white cardboard box has doors, if you are careful when opening, you can re-use them for your Advent countdown next year. I guarantee if your small children open the doors, they will rip it. So if you are looking to save the cardboard, just pop open the door for your child and let them take the nativity piece out.
I searched online back in November 2015 and the running price for this was $30 or more. I think buying it for $25 is a good deal and I recommend it for anyone looking to buy an Advent Set their kids can enjoy!
