Well...while I was attempting to put batteries in the first one, I pressed down on the tab on the back that opens the battery compartment and - snap! - went the tab. Bent right in half, not all the way broken, but just enough so that it really was now useless. I pried the back open with a box knife and got it done. Thinking that it was just a fluke, I tried the next one. HA, same thing happened.
On the positive side, these work and they are a decent brightness. On the negative side, they are the most cheaply made things I've ever seen. If you buy these, be aware of the fact that you will most likely have to pry off the battery compartment with something because the little tabs will break off if you put any kind of pressure on them. They are not worth the price I paid for them (and it wasn't a lot).
- They don't produce a lot of light, but to illuminate a dark closet or otherwise provide light in dark places, they work great.
- The battery life is pretty good too. I accidentally left one one for 8 or 9 hours once and it's still going almost as good as it was before that.
- I gave some to my mom and she seems pretty happy with them too. She told me she likes using it as a reading light for her kindle because it produces such a soft glow unlike those clip on reading lights that cause glare on the screen. I'm not entirely sure how she props it up but it's working for her.
One of the clips on a battery cover broke on me. It still stays clipped in but I have to use something flat like a pocket knife or flat head screwdriver to undo the clip to access the batteries on that one now. This isn't too big of a deal since replacing the batteries won't need to happen much.
And of the twelve touted to be "Super bright, long life LEDs" five of them were rather dim necessitating two of them in most places while the other seven would not be, by my standards, "super bright," but bright enough to do the job. With any luck, the LED's will burn in and get brighter over time as some made in china LED's have been known to do - time will tell.
For the conclusion: they are so cheap as an add on item that the poor manufacturing / cheap plastic used on them and the inconsistency in LED's can be overlooked if they indeed are "long life LED's."
Does what I need with one and the other 3 go to the 7 month old to click on and off- he loves them!
For some reason 2 of them were a cooler white color, and the other 2 were warmer in color. Very cheap plastic and build, so don't expect super long term use. The battery cover especially breaks easily. So far, two have gotten super dim (no, it's not the batteries). Most likely it's just extended use of the LED and it is burning out. But, I always thought that LEDs lasted a really long time.
For the price, I would say you get what you pay for. Don't expect wonders in quality. But, it is definitely a handy push light to have.
