Deadly 30's gameplay it simple enough; you and a team of two AI controlled survivors must last 30 days in a zombie apocalypse WWII setting. Along the way you may upgrade your weapons, armor, and headquarters. Challenge is derived from the scarcity of resources (ammo and scrap metal) and increasingly tougher zombie types. I deeply enjoyed the NES-ish sidescrolling and the easy to understand controls. I liked the tension that was built as the day passes, night nears, and you sprint back to your headquarters where you fight through the night.

My complaints with Deadly 30 are, unfortunately, serious ones. The game desperately needs tooltips for the store where you purchase upgrades. I would like to know the benefits of upgrading my gun or armor before I buy it please. Something as simple as '+10% movement speed' when you hover over the boot upgrade would have been sufficient. Without knowing what exactly I was buying I couldn't pinpoint what upgrades gave me the most bang for my scrap metal buck. Futhermore, I feel like there are missed opportunities when it comes to the types of upgrades available. I would have liked to see maybe a one time purchasable "Engineer's Field Kit" that speeds up fence repair and vehicle deconstruction by 20%. Landmines, barbed wire, and grenades were all prevalent during WWII yet were not offered up as upgrades. Possibly a metal detector that increases scrap found by 10%.

Deadly 30 is not forgiving; often to the point of frustration then rage quitting. Only one difficulty mode is offered. The standard Easy, Average, Hard modes would have much welcomed here. The only variation between the three being more or less daytime and modified zombie HP. Maybe Hard difficulty only offers the most basic upgrades (i.e.

The main negative of the game is a lack of instructions. There are some basic walkthroughs on Youtube, but basically the goal of the game is to build defenses at your homebase and to upgrade the weapons & armour of your allies. The plot is extremely minimal, and there is barely any introduction to the game except for a short opening scene. This is a good zombie shooter, but definetly an Indie-type game that doesn't have overall polish. The game has minimal system requirements to play, but I still noticed a few slowdowns on my 6-core 3.2Ghz machine with 16 GB of RAM, so the game is not optimized. Some frequent slowdowns inevitably occur during the later levels when there is a lot of onscreen bullet casings flying around and zombie bodies accumulating onscreen. I'd probably give this game a 3.5 out of 5; but I still feel it was worth what I paid for.

This is the germ of a truly great game. It's old school almost 16-bit level game play, which is great. I miss a lot of the old simplistic ones you could pick up and basically just play and have a good time. Plot? Who needs a plot? You're an Army dude and there are zombies. You can find a Russian and a German officer and they'll join up with you to save their own skin too. It's really nice once you have them, since they add firepower and give you an extra "life" since if you die you can take over one of them; you can also switch between them anytime you have them along.

So what were the problems? Well, first off the game has no real tutorial. It's an annoying trend and IMHO that's just a lazy developer. You're creating a unique world of your own imagination. You need to provide a basic framework to the people who are visiting or they'll end up getting frustrated more than is necessary. The game needlessly wastes your time trying to figure out what makes you survive by trial and error. There is also the frame rate. I have a core i7 running 3+GH and I got massive slowdown at full screen from time to time. The engine that runs it needs a significant amount of polish. This can also leave you frustrated. Still, considering the price, it's not a deal breaker.

So the verdict? The game is quite a bit of fun and if you can find it on any kind of sale I'd say go for it. Watch some videos online to see how the basics go and just figure that if you do end up rage quitting, you're at least not out much.

Overall the game was fun, it took me about 3-4 hours to beat it. There is an optimization issue as the game would hang up the further I progressed (more zombies). It wasn't so bad that I didn't want to play but it should be fixed. I read about there being no manual or instruction on how to play but there are in game tips that get you going, I had no issues figuring out the game play. All in all it was worth $5.

I became excited when I saw the advertisement on Gonzo SSM's youtube channel for the game. As soon as it came out I purchased it. Gameplay was not too bad, at first. As it became dark on the 1st day (wave 1) the game became so glitchy that it became un playable. The game chrashed soon after. I experienced that issue every time I attempted to load and play the game. Another issue I encountered is once you pause the game then resume the screen becomes black, game audio is working but there is no picture. If you hit pause again the pause menu comes in view, meaning it is an internal glitch in the game not related to my pc. I was very disapointed with the overall game, completely unplayable...
