What a truly amazing razor. Exceptionally well made. The best money can buy, and far from the most expensive, and I truly mean that!!

I have used The Merkur VISION 2000, the Pils -All Stainless, Merkur 43c, Feather -All Stainless, and a handful of others, and this Merkur Futur is by far my go to shaving implement. I like to collect Safety/DE razors so I own many, and this Razor performs better than safety razors with a $250 price tag and not due to some shiny Mammoth Ivory handle, or a limited edition release or other outrageous things done to ornament a razor, but bare-bones no frills All-Stainless razor... This is better balanced, more ergonomic in the hand, and just plain 'feels' better than a razor nearly for times the price.

The weight is perfect, really helps run through a very thick beard (I dull a fusion cartridge in a single shave believe it or not), but not too heavy that its annoying like the Merkur 43c at 5 and a quarter ounces. The adjust-ability of the razor is superb in every way, with a very wide range of closeness, from a nearly impossible to cut yourself- great for a novice to develop a technique, to the closest shave you have ever had- pretty much a straight razor on a stick, and anywhere in-between, with the best part being the ability to adjust on the fly so you can have that super close shave, but back off a bit through the sensitive spots. The razor has an incredibly smooth adjustment, yet will stay exactly where you place it until you intentionally change it.

Just a great product all around, if I lost it I'd buy two more so if I lost it again I wouldn't have to go without for even a day!!

The Merkur Future is an outstanding razor. The adjustable feature is second to none.

Do not fool yourself, you will cut yourself until your become accustomed to using the Double Edge (DE) razor. Here is a Pro/Con list:

Pros'
1. Replacement blades cost pennies, not dollars (I bought a bulk pack at .17 cents each).
2. The closest shave you have ever had (I shave the night before and my face is still baby smooth when I go to work the next morning).
3. Taking the time to "pamper" yourself with a quality shave is very rewarding.
4. Shaving is not a chore; it is a grooming need, just like combing your hair or brushing your teeth
5. In the long run, this razor pays for itself. I previously used the Gillette Fusion. 4-pack of replacement blades is $16 and would last me 8 weeks.
6. Make the initial investment for quality shaving accessories (stand, brush, bowl, nik (cut) sealer) and you will thank yourself. Get a badger brush ($25-$55), a stand (keeps stuff neat & orderly, plus allows proper drying of your brush). Get a quality shaving bowl so you can get a good shaving lather that helps soften your whiskers. Finally get a quality shave soap (don't fall into the cheap soap pitfall) that will make your shave process smooth and cut-free. I use an Italian brand, Proasso.
7. I replace my DE razor blade once a week. When you do the math, a year's supply of blades is $8.84. For the Gillette, you are looking at $104. In one year, the Merkur pays for itself.

Cons'
1. Significant initial investment
2. For the first few weeks, you WILL cut yourself, multiple times (cutting yourself sucks).
3. Significant initial investment for the shaving accessories (stand, brush, bowl, nik (cut) sealer)
4.

I just purchased this and am going from a Mach 3. I'm simply amazed at how all the 'technology' we have today is so much worse than this. This thing is painless...no pulling, no tugging, no discomfort, & I didn't cut myself even on the first try. The #1 setting cuts as close (if not closer) as the Mach 3 so I'm not sure if I want to go any closer. I have ultra sensitive skin for the record, and can only shave every other day, but now that might change.

Don't be fooled by those who say this is difficult to use. It isn't. Just hold the razor head perpendicular to your face and rock it back until you find the spot where it cuts. Just don't do something stupid like move it sideways or bear down because you certainly don't need too. Sometimes I think people want to feel like they are doing something more important so they create the illusion that it is more difficult than it really is. I don't use a badger hair lathering brush or any other fancy thing...just a sensitive shave gel (in the shower) and you are off to the races. Also, it doesn't take 20 minutes like some say. Maybe a little longer than the Mach 3, but I'm just being careful in the beginning. Oh, and it was a concern of mine that the handle looked slippery, especially because I shave in the shower, but it isn't. I had zero problems holding onto it while it was wet.

The seller shipped it fairly quickly as well.

This was my first razor of this kind, moving from a Gillette Mach3 Turbo. Let me just say that I actually liked my Gillette and if I felt like mortgaging my house every month to buy blades, then I'd stick with it. But I had always wanted to try the safety razor type of shaving. This razor has a great weight to it, a nice balance, and is aesthetically pleasing. The price is steep if you're new to this type of shaving, but pretty typical if you're not, and only time will tell if it was more than worth it.
One concerns for users might be the polished finish. There is a potential there to lose your grip of the razor because it's such a smooth polished finish. I have never once had this issue but the potential is there, if you lower your awareness.
An issue for newbies to adjustable razors is that the item is German made with no real instructions or guidance. The adjustable settings range from 1-5, and they are in reference to the spacing between the blade edge and the bottom lip of the blade housing. 1 gives you the smallest gap which is less prone to nicks and bumpy skin. Setting 5 is best for longer facial hair, or a much closer shave, allowing more skin to get trapped between the blade and lower lip. If not mindful of this, you could wind up with a colorful face after. The indexing on the dial is a little off on every razor that I've heard of so far. You can learn how to break it down and fix it on YouTube, or just learn it and deal with it.
Like I said earlier, it's a nice weight, for me, which might seem heavy for a lot of people who prefer holding just the very bottom of the handle and gliding it around for a shave. For me I prefer the weight to make better contact between the blade and my face/head, but it's all about preference.
