there are TWO DIFFERENT shoes here... EDIT: since I wrote this review, they split the Jungle Mocs and related models up into a bunch of listings... look carefully at the sole for the specific color you want to make sure you are getting the oval nubs

the standard Jungle Moc has been around about 20 years... it has oval nubs on the sole and the sole rolls farther up on the toe.... when you select (as of this writing) Taupe, Midnight, Gunsmoke, Dark Earth, Fudge, Gunsmoke Brown, or Nubuck you see that sole... this is BY FAR the better shoe... overall better fit, construction, the sole rolls a little better, and the weight and size of the sole is much smaller

I have a 20 year old Taupe with oval nubs, and just bought a new pair and they are exactly alike in construction and size.... perfect shoe.

the second type has been around about 5 years, it's the criss cross pattern on the sole and doesn't roll up the toe as much.... the Brown, Black, and Merrell Sand colors are this type.... this one is not nearly as good as the other design.... it tends to run much larger than size, the softer sole wears out much quicker, it wallows out and gets bigger over time, it's more flat footed and not as comfortable... it is not nearly as good a shoe.....

the original jungle moc is hands down the best casual but fairly dressy looking shoe in existence... if you have any sort of foot problem and buy it the right size, it's a miracle... it doesn't wallow out and change size over time, it stays dry in slush etc, it cleans easily... ..... it holds up forever and I have a 20 year old pair I still use around the house and yard.

enjoy... but buy the right one...

Merrell's Jungle Slip-On Shoes is by far my best Amazon purchase ever.
I have been wearing them for about 4 years now, every single day, except for a very few winter days, when it was snowing up to a knee height.
Sure, the damage is becoming evident, but bear in mind that I am 260 pounds heavy, that I used them in extreme Iraqi weather, while working, playing basketball, running ...
I am amazed that they are still holding, comfortable as ever.
After I had them on, I am convinced that nothing else could ever measure up to Merrell.

I'm a general surgery resident and spend *roughly* 80 hours a week tramping around a hospital and standing in operating rooms. While I've worn running shoes for the past 5 years, I was (1) tired of ruining athletic shoes and socks with various bodily fluids and (2) wanted to see if clogs/slip-ons would be different. Yes, the Jungle Mocs work well, and I think they're superior to clogs. The Mocs breathe more but provide enough grip to snugly fit my foot. I can fly up stairs with ease. Though they felt heavy at first, after a couple of 24 hour+ shifts, they broke in, and my feet enjoy the extra cushioning. I can spend hours in the OR without getting the wearying pressure/constriction sensation. And if I do have some downtime, I can pop 'em off with ease. Plus, blood and other stuff seem to wipe off easily. I've only had these a couple of months and will update in a few more regarding their durability.

This is an excellent shoe for men, casual but dressy enough for a fun evening. Style aside, it is well made with excellent midfoot support and appropriate toe box structure. As a practitioner in podiatry, I got these for my husband, who was suffering from foot pain, with a near immediate relief in his pain.

A well made shoe can make the difference between long term foot support and long term problems. Merrill shoes are an excellent start to good foot health.

Comfortable right out of the box for my EEE feet. They may not appear to be the best quality shoe available but the price is right and one can expect a few years of useful life from this good looking shoe. Merrell makes a number of variations on this shoe but offers only a few of them in wide sizes - a real lack of awareness from a company that otherwise offers great footwear at good prices.

I have found these so satisfactory that I have bought three more pairs after my original pair, which walked over quite a lot of Morocco and then, having been a bit sole-worn and loosened up by use, became my favored "slippers." (I have them on now.) For me they fit closely and yet are quick on/off -- secure when on, but not floppy like many low slip-ons. You can run in them. The four pairs I have had all fit the same way, which is saying something in an age of low-quality mass production, when shoe (and all clothing) sizes are laughably arbitrary and variable.

Purchased for my husband to wear around the house while working on projects, doing yard work and weekend errands. He likes them a lot except that he cannot wear socks unless they are very thin, and even then plenty snug, so definitely recommend a half size larger. He has never had to size up or down from his normal size or return shoes because of size, so these must run slightly smaller than standard. The shoes get a tough workout on my very active husband, but still look great and holding together very well.

I've been wearing Jungle Mocs and its style almost daily for over 10 years. In that period, I've also worn the copies: from name brands to cheapos from Walmart and Payless. I've taken it to forests, boats in rough seas, caves, muddy terrain, snow, rain, dirt, river rocks, sands, from cold weather in Northern Canada to the heat of Mexico.

    Pros
Durable:typically last 2-5 years, depending on use until the sole runs down to the leather
Comfortable all season: but a bit hot to wear in summer
Water resistant: can be used in snow as well as rain
rugged: easy to clean off mud & dirt
gun smoke color: hides dirt very well!
no maintenance: rinse the shoe with a hose and it never needs shining
    Arch support
    Grip soles

    Cons
You can't buy this shoe without first trying it on to find the right size. You're best buying it online only to replace a worn out model that you already own. Wide or regular and length can be different than other styles. Over the years I wore 9R, then 9.5R. But I wear 10R most other shoes.

What the clones don't give you, and varies from maker to maker:

They typically cost 20-$30 versus $60-70 for a true Merrell Jungle Moc. Nearly all are made in China, yet Merrell's quality and fit aren't like the clones.

Sole Wear: they last 1 year or just over, about half the Merrell's life
Fit: all are fine when new, but most copies age poorly, the shoe flexes in wrong place leading to instability problems and worse, foot pain!
Size: at times one foot seems bigger than the other
Quality: Sole separates from body, inserts come loose, tore a hole in the leather
Sole pattern: not only wears quickly, but is not as grippy as the true jungle Moc, punched a hole through the ball of the foot
