there are TWO DIFFERENT shoes here... EDIT: since I wrote this review, they split the Jungle Mocs and related models up into a bunch of listings... look carefully at the sole for the specific color you want to make sure you are getting the oval nubs

the standard Jungle Moc has been around about 20 years... it has oval nubs on the sole and the sole rolls farther up on the toe.... when you select (as of this writing) Taupe, Midnight, Gunsmoke, Dark Earth, Fudge, Gunsmoke Brown, or Nubuck you see that sole... this is BY FAR the better shoe... overall better fit, construction, the sole rolls a little better, and the weight and size of the sole is much smaller

I have a 20 year old Taupe with oval nubs, and just bought a new pair and they are exactly alike in construction and size.... perfect shoe.

the second type has been around about 5 years, it's the criss cross pattern on the sole and doesn't roll up the toe as much.... the Brown, Black, and Merrell Sand colors are this type.... this one is not nearly as good as the other design.... it tends to run much larger than size, the softer sole wears out much quicker, it wallows out and gets bigger over time, it's more flat footed and not as comfortable... it is not nearly as good a shoe.....

the original jungle moc is hands down the best casual but fairly dressy looking shoe in existence... if you have any sort of foot problem and buy it the right size, it's a miracle... it doesn't wallow out and change size over time, it stays dry in slush etc, it cleans easily... ..... it holds up forever and I have a 20 year old pair I still use around the house and yard.

enjoy... but buy the right one...

Merrell's Jungle Slip-On Shoes is by far my best Amazon purchase ever.
I have been wearing them for about 4 years now, every single day, except for a very few winter days, when it was snowing up to a knee height.
Sure, the damage is becoming evident, but bear in mind that I am 260 pounds heavy, that I used them in extreme Iraqi weather, while working, playing basketball, running ...
I am amazed that they are still holding, comfortable as ever.
After I had them on, I am convinced that nothing else could ever measure up to Merrell.

I'm a general surgery resident and spend *roughly* 80 hours a week tramping around a hospital and standing in operating rooms. While I've worn running shoes for the past 5 years, I was (1) tired of ruining athletic shoes and socks with various bodily fluids and (2) wanted to see if clogs/slip-ons would be different. Yes, the Jungle Mocs work well, and I think they're superior to clogs. The Mocs breathe more but provide enough grip to snugly fit my foot. I can fly up stairs with ease. Though they felt heavy at first, after a couple of 24 hour+ shifts, they broke in, and my feet enjoy the extra cushioning. I can spend hours in the OR without getting the wearying pressure/constriction sensation. And if I do have some downtime, I can pop 'em off with ease. Plus, blood and other stuff seem to wipe off easily. I've only had these a couple of months and will update in a few more regarding their durability.

This is an excellent shoe for men, casual but dressy enough for a fun evening. Style aside, it is well made with excellent midfoot support and appropriate toe box structure. As a practitioner in podiatry, I got these for my husband, who was suffering from foot pain, with a near immediate relief in his pain.

A well made shoe can make the difference between long term foot support and long term problems. Merrill shoes are an excellent start to good foot health.

Comfortable right out of the box for my EEE feet. They may not appear to be the best quality shoe available but the price is right and one can expect a few years of useful life from this good looking shoe. Merrell makes a number of variations on this shoe but offers only a few of them in wide sizes - a real lack of awareness from a company that otherwise offers great footwear at good prices.

I have found these so satisfactory that I have bought three more pairs after my original pair, which walked over quite a lot of Morocco and then, having been a bit sole-worn and loosened up by use, became my favored "slippers." (I have them on now.) For me they fit closely and yet are quick on/off -- secure when on, but not floppy like many low slip-ons. You can run in them. The four pairs I have had all fit the same way, which is saying something in an age of low-quality mass production, when shoe (and all clothing) sizes are laughably arbitrary and variable.

These shoes fit great and are very comfortable for their lifetime, which I would place at about six months before they become uncomfortable and dangerous on slick surfaces. For $80 they do not last nearly long enough. All the Merrell boots that I own last a lifetime, but the mocs just don't last. I've been wearing this style of shoe by Merrell for about 2 years now and have been through several pairs. I average 2.13 miles of walking per day (measured with a pedometer) and wear these shoes about 2/3 of the time, some other pair the rest of the time. So if I wore them every day they would last me about 4 months. The tread on the outsole wears down to a smooth flat surface over this period of time and the inside of the heel deteriorates and digs into my heel a bit. Every pair consistently deteriorates in this manner. I know one other person that wears the same shoes as me and has reported the same lifetime. These are a great pair of shoes if you don't mind buying a new pair every 6 months. I love how easy they are to slip on/off and how comfortable they are, but I am giving a pair of Dunham shoes a try for my daily shoes.
