Now that I have the correct size, they fit well and are very protective, unlike many of the other Merrell barefoot line. These are going to be my go-to shoe for hiking or anytime I need a bit more protection and a thicker sole than my current everyday shoes, the Flux Glove.
I tried on the Chameleon 4 version shoe at a local store, to get the fit of these correct before ordering. I went with the Apollo/blue color - because it looked pretty unique.
I thought by the look of these, they were more water-wear based - but, they are a bit thicker, and more "complex". I'm not complaining at all, I was just noting. In my opinion, they look much thinner online.
These are very well made, fit exactly as expected, and look pretty durable. They got lots of comments the first time I wore them, people seemed to really like the blue color - as do I.
The shoes are super comfortable, and well cushioned - however, mine do not 'mold to my feet perfectly' like a sock. Some people say theirs do. I'm not seeing that.
I bought these to wear at work, because my boots are heavy and not exactly friendly on my feet. I work in a medical facility that frequently gets wet floors, and I walk about 5-7 miles AT work each day. So I wanted something more comfy to walk all those miles. I'm required to wear boots while we have patients in the building - but, after hours, my real walking begins.
Why 3 stars? Holy mother these shoes are slippery!! I walked on barely wet linoleum, and did a partial split. Wet epoxy sealed concrete - instant death. I walked on poured/shiny slab concrete that had a decent amount of water on it, and I swear it was like oil on top of partially melted ice!! These are the most slippery shoes I've ever owned - hands down. I would be better off barefoot.
I can't imagine hiking up/down a mountain on some steep rocks, and hitting a morning dew saturated rock. You would be dead, or in the hospital.
Look great, feel great, built great, zero traction on damp/wet surfaces.
Back to my boots. Maybe some nice new insoles.
But over the last two years something changed and the shoes are not what they used to be.
The mentioned shoes are supposed to be hiking shoes and they look great but the soles are not thick enough for hiking as you can feel small rocks and obstacles on the trails. Time will tell how good they last as I still have Merrel shoes with more than 5 year and they still rocks.

Second pair of these. I was glad I was able to find another pair on Amazon. My favorite pair of Merrells! Comfortable, light weight, breathable, great walking around town shoes.Published 1 month ago by R M Lawrence
These wore out entirely too soon for Merrell's, not the quality I expected. My last Merrells lasted 6 months in the desert, these didn't even hold up in the states.Published 4 months ago by Justin
Uncomfortable at best. I don't know what happened with these shoes, because I usually love Merrell shoes. Oh well.Published 4 months ago by Benjamin L. Frentzel

You need to know that these arent supposed to be heavy duty. But i use them for moderately serious hiking on AT and they are awesome. Light, ventilated, comfy and stylish. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Pen Name
