From the Manufacturer
Merrell believes that nothing should get in the way of enjoying active outdoor adventures. Merrell hiking boots, trail running shoes and apparel are built on Merrell’s outdoor heritage, quality and performance.
Lug patterns that provide stability in all conditions, with no lugs placed under the arch, so your foot flexes more naturally for greater comfort. Sure traction on both wet and dry surfaces in even the most extreme temperatures.
Gore-Tex Comfort Sytem
Nothing says dry, warm, and breathable like Gore-Tex. Engineered to repel moisture and enhance breathability during high-energy activities.

No more leather - nope...none to be found. I don't think there is a stitch of leather anywhere on these shoes. "Pleather" Maybe, but Leather it is not (as in past versions, and as in the description). Also, the shoelaces are just to short. Past versions were on the long side, but that's OK..certainly much better than having only 2-3" to tie with.
I'm just disappointed to see yet another brand that had built a good following based on making a quality product at a fair price, now turn to just making "another cheap shoe" to compete with everyone else on the bottom end (yet still charge a premium). The new version is visibly lower in quality, lower quality in feel, construction, etc.. I'd say if you're expecting the Merrell shoes of yesteryear - move on to another brand if you're paying this kind of money.
If you look at the zoomed in pictures of the "Chocolate" or "Granite" shoe, you can see all the Pleather...however, the pic of the "Walnut" shoe still shows real Leather. Why does this matter? Well, the fake leather is notorious for just being low quality and wearing out quicker than the real thing. Also, at this price point you don't expect Fake leather.
Oh...last thing. I ordered the same size as the past 3 pairs - this time I had to return them and get a 1/2 size larger...I guess the new Pleather shrunk the shoe.
The only concerns I have was that it took 1 month to break in the shoe (full time daily wearing). The gore-tex makes the middle of the shoe tight when you walk, as if there was a crease \ fold that pinches a bit. I re-laced a few times (would stop it for a few days), after a month it was not a problem.
Also the back of the heel (on the inside) has completely worn out and some of the padding is pulling out, however I can't blame the shoe as I always pull up on the backstrap and shove my feet in instead of retying my shoes everyday. That's my fault.
Otherwise, great shoe. Definitely sticking to only Merrells (buying a pair of their leather dress shoes) and Vibram products, might even buy this exact shoe again (in Grey next time).
I bought these because of the Gore-Tex, and the color is nice too. However, i was sort of expecting all the benefits of the traditional Moabs but with a "waterproof" trait. I'm not sure where the Gore-Tex part of the construction lies, since just like the regular Moab Ventilators, the uppers on these are mesh. Unfortunately, with these mesh uppers, any splash or rain at all goes right through to the tops of the toes. So, Gore-text or not, they're not much drier than any other Moab version.
So, am i disappointed in them? No, they look great and fit perfect and that's the important part for me ...just I'm not sure they're worth extra money for the Gore-Tex.
