you are on the shorter end of your normal shoe size or can order a half size up
your foot is not wider than average
...these might be the best things ever.
I wanted to love these but it just wasn't in the tea leaves. I own several other pair of Merrell footcovers, and love them. I really wanted a boot with legit cold weather insulation (400g) that still felt agile. I bike year round, I can't wear pack boots, and the 200g Keens just don't cut it at 10 degrees or under.
The fit on these is ODD, or maybe odd for Merrell, in my experience.
The overall shoe is rather narrow, for Merrell, and especially for winter shoes. My foot is wider than normal but not crazy, and there is no way I could have worn legit, thick winter socks with my normal shoe size. Huh.
The shoe is also a little short. I am an 11.5 almost always and my toes were right at the end of the box with thinner socks.
In my experience it doesn't fit like a normal Merrell shoe. These folks know what they're doing. A winter boot or shoe should be a little wider and longer than normal; you're likely to wear heavier socks, and too tight a fit can restrict circulation. These sorta do both.
I have yet to find any other winter boot with as much insulation that isn't some heavy clunker (which totally have their place, just not a bike in the winter).
YOU SHOULD BUY THEM N TRY THO. If they had fit me I feel like they'd be the best boot for active stuff in butt cold, ever.
Update: Since original review I bought a second pair from Merrell trying a 7.5, 8, and another 8.5. Just due to my odd feet, the 8.5 was most comfortable due to where the front “pad” of my foot hits in the better sized shoes. With boots I almost always need to try a variety of sizes, so if you can at all afford the inconvenience, try multiple sizes and send the others back after.

Edit - toe cap collapsed on left boot making it unwearable as it creased into my toes. Amazon great with replacement do fingers crossed this was a one off - no problem’s with wife’s boots. Reduced from five star to four for now. Will review again if no problems occur with replacements.
